The Mind Sports Olympiad starts shortly in London, see www.msoworld.com. There is an exciting Twixt event which may be of interest:
Monday, Aug 18, 19:00-22:30
- constituting the official World Championship
- 5 rounds with 20 minutes per player per game
Hopefully some players from Little Golem will be able to make it. Results will be posted on the website.

Is there a cash prize? Or a marble thing that says wo bay bay Twixt World Champion

Hi David, I've sent an email to the organisers to clarify the position regarding prizes. Twixt has in recent years attracted very strong fields. Given that its a World Championship, it seems an oversight (which is what I assume it is) that Shogi has a prize fund, but Twixt not. I'll try to report back if I hear back, but check out http://www.msoworld.com/2014/07/prize-fund-for-mso-2014/.
Twixt medallists will certainly get a medal and the gold medal winner will have the right to call themselves the World Champion, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TwixT.

Well Shogi is much more popular worldwide. I cannot attend this year, but hope to get there somehow in 2015.

I've had a reply from the organisers and they say that, unfortunately, TwixT will not have a cash prize this year. Apparently the events which attracted prizes (and the amount for each prize) were set by the sponsors and not the organisers. At a guess this was an attempt to maximise press coverage for more widely known games. I can only think the TwixT WC was an oversight and I'll raise the point personally.
Look forward to seeing you there, Florian! Looking forward to MSO 2014...maybe see you next year, David B.

How many players might a game like TwixT get?

Unfortunately I'm not privy to up-to-date numbers, but based on previous years I'd say around 10-12.
