Suppose you are playing second, which do you choose:
1) For any move my opponent plays, swapping will give me an advantage.
2) For any move not on the first line that my opponent plays, swapping will give me an advantage.
3) For any move higher than the second line, swapping will give me an advantage.
4) Some moves that are on neither of the first or second lines will be disadvantageous to swap.
Feel free to specify if you think size 8/10 matters.
Also:
A) There are moves that are almost (as far as we can tell) perfectly even with swap.
B) There are no moves that are almost perfectly even.

I don't think LG allows swapping in size-10 Havannah.
BTW, this forum is dedicated to both Hex and Havannah. It's not obvious which game you're talking about.

Thanks. I forget that, not being a hex player. I meant Havannah.
And yes, LG doesn't let you swap in size 10, so opinions will presumably be based less on experience and more on feel.

I find this extremely hard in havannah. Usually I just always swap. I don't think it is the best, but I am unable to identify strong openings from weak ones. Anyone got some pointers?
Also, it seems that maybe swap should be included in havannah size 10 according to the good players.

I think the swap option should be implemented, yes. Regarding good openings, there are certain criteria finding the balance between speed and safety, for instance how high up (in Go terms) one should play at least, or whether to block, cut, run or ignore. Good players apply these in specific openings, in part depending on style. There are opening moves that are quite even in terms of a swap, but that's a general discussion point interladed with some rather strong opinions.

I don't want proof, I want opinions :)
