For this tournament, I would like to know a few things:

How many games were played / start date for the first game in the tournament / end date for the the last game in the tournament / average length of a game in moves and in hours or days

It's mostly just for idle curiosity, but I thought I might put some of these figures on the SL page about toroidal go:

Players: 129
Games: 1882
Rounds: 138
Start Date: 2012-11-05 11:27
End Date: 2020-10-28 01:41
Average Length in Moves: 60.87
Average Length in Days: 52.32

If you consider only games which lasted at least 2 moves:
Games: 1497
Average Length in Moves: 76.35
Average Length in Days: 65.67

If you consider only games which ended with "resign" or "Accept" (i.e. not loss on time or server weirdness):
Games: 1440
Average Length in Moves: 74.52
Average Length in Days: 60.78

If you consider only games which met either criterion:
Games: 1625
Average Length in Moves: 70.41
Average Length in Days: 60.51

Enjoy!

Oh, I just realized that some of those games involved "System". I can redo with those removed, if you'd like. It'd probably take about 20 minutes.

I guess I included about half of the System games (I remembered to exclude them as a player, but not games against them). Here goes:

Players: 129
Games: 1843
Rounds: 138
Start Date: 2012-11-05 11:27
End Date: 2020-10-28 01:41
Average Length in Moves: 62.14
Average Length in Days: 53.42

I'll redo the other statistics, or statistics including all System games, if that would be of value.

Thanks very much for this William. Very interesting.

How did you get these statistics? Do you have access to the LG database, or did you write a script to download all the games?

I don't know what it means for a game to involve "system". Could it be a player who has deleted their account?

No, System is a player inserted as necessary to make an even number of players in each round. (Basically, a bye.) It never moves, so it will lose on time unless you go first and either resign or lose on time yourself. I guess the new ladder tournaments won't have that feature.

I wrote a small java program (took about 5 hours to code/debug) which then took about 30 minutes downloading the games.

I've belatedly got round to adding William's statistics to SL: https://senseis.xmp.net/?Toroidal Go

Thanks again, William!

There are a few other things which could also be interesting, but I don't want to presume on William's generosity with his time...

1 Data visualisations (maybe histograms) for: the duration of games, and for the results of games in terms of W/B won by how many points
2 the top 5 longest games (in moves)
3 the top 5 longest games (in moves) where the result was counted with a difference no greater than the komi.
