Anyone else having trouble with players moving differently after Golem bug backed up game 3 or 4 moves?

A little disappointed after showing my hand and opponent moving differently.

Anyone else with this problem?

yes but I do not know a solution. Also in some games we lost 5 or 6 moves, not always possible to remember.

I have a go9 championship game, and I was losing, but he made a big blunder and gave away a huge corner, so I was of course, elated!

Then, suddenly, the position is back before the blunder, and of course, he plays a move that does not blunder the corner.  UGH!!

A weak cheater stays weak, just beat him with another sequence (-;

Nevertheless, it is true that in some "not so important" games, where it is not 3-4 but something like 10 moves, it could be hard to remember.

Cheater? Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity!

I had to replay a few moves too, and I couldn't say if I did the same again or not. Totally depends on the situation of course. Critical decisions that I thought about for a longer time I probably would always remember. But others may have an even weaker memory than me. (At least I like to believe that.)

I am playing a bunch of EWN games. Hard to tell if I lost some moves anywhere. So it could be both advantage or disadvantage.I guess the only thing to blame is the server failure... (no hard feelings Richard!)

I agree, nevertheless, when your are playing a 1st championship, for the title, the players are particularly motivated and they use a lot of time to play precisely.I am sure almost everybody remembers his moves there, and it is normal to just play the same order of moves, not trying to undo past mistakes.

Revalidation of all games would make sense (play all saved moves that are valid, if not a valid move then ignore it and all following moves)

@Florian: Yeah, it might be a different issue in league 1. Of course I can't tell, since I never got any higher in any game than league 2. (And even that happened only twice or so before I went down to 3 again.)

Thanks for all the replies

In my game it is a championship, and the outcome of the game may be the same anyway, but I'm  pretty sure He didn't forget his moves so it kinda  leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I don't view my opponent the same way as I used too.

i have one game outside a championship were my opponent took a better path, the outcome of the game changed from "lost" to "not yet known", (s)he says that (s)he forgot the move played the first time

i have one game in a championship were i missed to play the right move order (the idea was there still but the order of the moves was a bit tricky), the outcome of the game changed from "won" to "not yet known, certainly much more trouble than before"

So what, nothing in my life really depends on outcomes of games on LG :)

I played differently some games, but because I have 30 games running,  for some of them i didn't remember what I did before... sometimes it  get better sometimes worst...my aim is to progress and have fun, not only to win, which is of course pleasant but not a finality. ..

Have fun ; )

In one of my games with Florian Jamain (polyomino), I could not recall what my move was from the earlier state before the crash  (I had no idea what I played before), so I played a move which was probably different and politely told him that I could not remember what I had played.  His response was to call me a liar and a cheater and then he proceeded to tell me he would beat me either way, which is probably true, but I found his tact very offensive and a good example of bad sportsmanship.    Thank goodness, most players at this site are here to have fun.

Yes, I have 30 games, and it's quite a few moves to play. I resigned one because I couldn't recreate it, and thought I had a lost position. I played others out. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't gained anything from the reset, but I can't be 100% confident.

There are certainly people who'll take the opportunity to cheat, but throwing accusations around is poor form.

Update, Florian was good enough to apologize to me for his accusations.  I was quite put off by his unfounded accusations, and I politely told him so, but to his credit, he has retracted his statement to me and apologized, so that is a great example of good sportsmanship!   Apology accepted, now back to having fun...

I never knew it was a rule that you should move the same if moves get lost. I am probably a cheater then since I never even tried to remember but always just did the move that seemed the best.

In fact, in game Game #1710967 that hyperpape gave up, I can not remember any further move either, but there were moves as the game statistics says 8 but displayed are just 5...

Probably the right thing to do in this situation is to ask the opponent whether or not the moves are known still and to agree on how to proceed. Let's see whether or not I can remember _that_ in case lg time jumps backwards again. :)

Wow.    I ask the Question, Where has Honor,  Truthfulness and Chivalrousness  gone?

Christian K    I'm sorry but i think the rule thing is lame.

I have always told my kids that cheating to win is meaningless. Sadly honor and truthfulness have become unpopular and have been replaced by do anything and everything including lying and cheating to win, or get ahead.

I applaud all those who did everything including messaging your opponents that you couldn't  remember moves because of numerous games and such, well done. And I Truly applaud those who removed knowing that it was losing when they saw they could have done something different to better their position.

This may be a little strong and harsh but maybe the ones who consider cheating okay should put something in their "about you" profile so I can just resign so you can have your meaningful win.

I understand Florian's frustration and I'm glad you guys resolved it :)

While I remembered all my moves and in fact did the exact same moves again after the bug, I can hardly condemn those who took this chance to find better moves. Moreover, I don't think it matters if it's a first league championship game or just a friendly unrated match.

I think there are far worse kinds of "cheating" out there. Arne's complain about values sounds a bit ridiculous in this regard. :) It's obvious Christian K doesn't see himself as a cheater.

Just to be clear; Is it a rule or something some people think is a good idea and polite?

#21 · hyperpape

8 Jun 2015

Not a rule that I know of, but I think "good idea and polite" is too weak. Unlike my views on resigning (in short: if you're a solid player, can't come up with moves that you can't refute, and aren't just a few moves from the end: resign!) I don't think it's up to your personal sense of what is polite.

If you can remember the game moves, and you played something you found out was disadvantageous, it's bad sportsmanship to replay a different move. In my opinion, you're obligated to try and remember what you played before. It's just that not everyone will always be able to do this. So it's an honor system.

Ok. I have never had the impression that my opponent's follow this dogma, but it is something I will keep in mind next time it happens.

#23 · erratic

10 Jun 2015

It is not a dogma; it is just avoiding the outcome of the game depending on a server failure. It is simply fair play like not stealing someone else's home when it was abandoned because of an earthquake ;-) (Well, that was a little bit exaggerated.)

#24 · blueblimp

10 Jun 2015

I'm surprised anyone can remember the lost moves. Maybe my memory is just bad. I agree it's bad sportsmanship to deliberately avoid playing a bad move the second time through, but I think it's better to assume it's just forgetfulness. "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity," as the saying goes.

In one of my games (toroidal Go) my opponent had made a mistake so the game was effectively lost. However as the server wiped out some moves, I decided to say to my opponent that I didn't mind if they played differently. I was interested to see what would happen. My oppenent accepted my offer and the game is still underway; I'm not sure who will win but it doesn't matter that much. I don't regret giving my opponent a second chance; maybe I will learn more from the game this way!

#26 · mtbikesman

I had a game totally won in Twixt.  The next move would be resignation.  Yet my opponent took a different strategy after the reboot, and kept the game alive for a few more moves but still will lose the game.  Now he has also lost his honor and respect as well.

#27 · ypercube

11 Jun 2015

"Lost honour and respect" are very harsh words.

#28 · Door1

14 Jun 2015

They are only harsh if you believe in them, otherwise they are meaningless.

#29 · Carroll

17 Jun 2015

You should always give credit to your opponent of living and playing at the best of his moral standards. If he plays different moves, either he did not remember what he had played and you should trust that this is the truth, either he does not share your code of honour that passed acts should not be wipped out and that the river never pass two times under the same bridge and then having made a mistake due to many factors once does not mean he has to do the same mistake twice.

For EWN, where hazard is included, do you know if the random seed is linked to each game at the start and the server delivers the same dice the second time, if not, what is the code of honour?

Should expect random numbers are different every "time"
