Ratings change

Can anyone tell me about the ratings change? If there was an explanation I missed it. I know I have been playing very poorly lately but suddenly seeing my rating down 200 points or so was disturbing but it looks like it is a scaling change or something.

The only ratings I see now for Twixt are kyu/dan ratings. Did anyone ask for this? I did not.

Indeed, they are buged. Now I see the kyu/dan type rating that David saw, though they make no sense at all. Earlier it just looked like the same system we have always had only I was rated at 1788 instead of my usual hover in the high 1900's/low 2000s's. This along with the issue with people being logged into the wrong accounts feels slightly world shaking here on LG. I hope that all is well.

Changes here happen with zero explanation beforehand and sometimes some acknowledgment afterward--usually when someone else remarks on it. I still remember the time Richard decided to take the location option out of everyone's control and automatically set it based on their real life location, down to the city. No one asked for that, either. It's always nice to see how much things have changed.

Oh, I have seen the changes happen as you say, this just feels more like things breaking than things being changed.

Your history now separates different games by variants, for example Twixt 24, 30, 48. Won/lost and ratings are kept separate, and I think this is a great improvement! Obviously it's a project in the works, and not complete yet. Give Poor Richard time (and an almanac). meow.

Unless this site can be restored, it's time for me to retire. It's been a fun ride all!

The separate display of game ratings by variant is a welcome change, definitely, and it's not my intention to ignore the plenty of other changes and improvements to the site through the years that have been nice additions. I just feel a long-standing frustration with what feels like a dearth of communication and many changes that are either questionably implemented or seem crafted to satisfy whimsy rather than function.

Ratings and ranks are visible as tooltips when you hover over the rating/rank. Or at the bottom right of the game page, there is a new button to toggle this globally across the entire page.

I see now, thanks for the information Richard. I will figure out the feel of how the newly implemented ranking system works as games proceed.

why did he lose more points than I gained?

I'm pretty sure that your rating moved less because you have played more games, and are thus assumed to have a more accurate rating (which needs less adjustment to be correct).
