Herbert Feuerstein died on the 6th of October of this unlucky year. Writer, actor, showman, he was also a close friend of Alex Randolph. They met in the Hawelka Café in Vienna, in which artists and freethinkers usually gathered. Among the others, Alex proposed Zaunblock, a game that he authored. It was the first form of Twixt. The two friends studied that game and were charmed by how subtle and deep it was. They decided to record their games on a block-note. Some years later, Feuerstein, that saved that block-note, wrote that it was “one of the most precious treasure he had.”
In 1998, Kosmos published 1000 copies of that booklet. The first game that was recorded was dated Oct. 10th, 1958, as today, 62 years ago. Happy Twixt gaming, Alex and Herbert, in another world.
