Changing of the Guard. (An Observation)

Public forum discussion.

It's interesting how the "top ten" has been reshuffled. How high will it go and who will reside there 9 months from now?? Aside from the newcomer Samdakota, other players have "upped" their game (you know who you are) or adapted quickly (Bizniouf) or have re-engaged with Littlegolem to move foreword (Hello Loic!). Then again, there are many players who used to be much higher ranked years ago and now appear to be struggling against the more recent new competition (See prior ratings). Upon some simple/brief research it appears there are many players who used to play on this website that no longer participate. And it also appears that there is a new crop of TwixT players that have discovered this website and are learning and growing as I type.......

Clearly, it has a lot of changes in TwixT. David Bush seems to stop to play. I think it's a bas news because he was certainly the best "ambassador" for the game. Without him and its articles on the game, i never reach the top 10 yet.

For me, it's an "accident". I've stopped to play because of time. But, many players during this 3 years wanted rates about the game and i always play TwixT. This year, Bizniouf asks to me. I have learned to him my vision of the game. I decide to play again, without take too long time to play. And, at my surprise, i reach the 2200 rating, who was a Graal when i stop to play 3 years ago.

Today, we have a lot of very good players and this new players is a relatively good news for the game. I hope a lot of new good players will come to play the game with us !

Yes, this development is very exciting. Many of the games start in a very similar way - has it been found superior to the other openings or is it just current fashion?

Samdakota and Thierry certainly have risen to the very top remarkably fast, and I'm curious what they'll show next.

I can't keep from wondering how Gyorgy and Maciej would fare in the first league with their imaginative play. My guess is they'd still crush it.

Oh boy, this topic is old. It was on the first page though!

Hi Tasuki.

I think that the similar openings you pointed out are more fashion than proved and admited superiority. It is also sometimes interesting to see where you can go from within the same opening.

I have personaly no doubt that Maciej and Gyorgy are wonderful players from whom I still have a lot to learn.

By the way, will you come back and attend to next championship ? Would be fine.

"wojtek" is actually a good player who disappears for a while and loses a lot of games on time...then comes back and ruins his opponents' rating, then disappears again, and comes back, and so on. If anything he causes unfairness in the ratings rather than helping the top players. In the final of the EOW championship I resigned on the first move to protect my rating, thinking I probably could not win the tournament anyway, but ended up missing 1st place because of it.

Rather than resign a game I resort to begging for mercy and groveling. Then as a last resort, I use verbal threats and intimidation. Alas, none of that ever works but I am hoping it will someday.
Or, on the other hand, I could improve my skill but that sounds like way too much work.
