Hex size 11 is added as variant. Monthly Cup will be played in this size. There is infinity tournament too.

Because there is a new board size, there is a new design of board too.

Are there plans for making the board design user-selectable?I prefer the older design.

Hum, I don't feel good with this. You whould check what is doing your "color scheme" it is not like the previous design.

Hi Richard,

Can we please have back the old color and orientation scheme?  I almost can't figure out what's going on with the board rotated 60 degrees.  I can sort of see the point of changing the colors (to be a little closer to trmph, where blue becomes white and red becomes black), but why oh why does the board need to be rotated?  Please, at least an option for the old orientation?

Thanks.

I think most Hex players are much more comfortable seeing the board positioned horizontally. At least in my browser it displays 45 deg rotated.

Richard, clicking the "color scheme" button does not change the orientation back to what it was!

(click the trmph link to see what the orientation used to be.)

Richard, thanks for all the improvements, but this new HEX table is wildly disorienting. Moreover, I cannot see the last move either.

Richard, how about the option we use to have for the custom, I believe it was, David Bush board?

#10 · Jos Dekker

I can only agree, that orientation of the new board is terrible. Richard, can it please be changed back?

Hi,

Globally I think the board looks nicer than before, though I don't like the cyan colour nor much the colour of the hexagonal cells. By the way, a black/white/brown scheme such as on trmph.com would be a nice addition.

As for the disposition, I don't mind for the 30-degree rotation, but I guess hardly anyone will use the 60-degree-and-reflection version (why a reflection?), and anyway it would be preferable to keep the option of a 'horizontal' board, with both a colour and a disposition schemes.

Ok, it's repaired, there is horizontal board available :) Thanks Richard!

#13 · Art Duval

13 Dec 2015

Thank you for the horizontal board!! :)

I will eventually get used to black and white instead of red and blue.

#14 · Jos Dekker

13 Dec 2015

Thanks Richard, for the horizontal board, but white stones on a white board is not very nice. Is it be possible to make a board such as the one on trmph.com?

#16 · Richard Malaschitz

13 Dec 2015

There are 4 design now (classic, horizontal, vertical, wooden horizontal).

#17 · Bill LeBoeuf

13 Dec 2015

Richard, how about the option for the custom board with numbered rows and columns like we use to be able to do?

#18 · Bill LeBoeuf

14 Dec 2015

Richard, the board is too near white to see the white stones, please just make the board the same beige color as the analysis board is.

I want to compliment Richard for this attempt in interactive design. I do like the wooden board with the center gridlines. The diamond orientation suits well. I think I will get used to it.

Will there be gridnumbers on the side optionally as well?

1. I add letters and numbers to skewed rectangle design.

2. Add new design. Suitable to create t-shirt from your noteworthy game :)

Thanks for including 11x11, Richard! I still think 13x13 should be the size for monthly cups, though. Also, it's good that we can choose which board orientation to use - I know I, at least, greatly prefer the "horizontal" board (as opposed to the diamond shape.

One question: On my screen, all boards appear to be very small (they used to be MUCH larger). Am I missing something? Is there some setting I can adjust? As it is now, the size of the board is so small I'm hardly able to make moves at all.

I might get a t-shirt like that - with the "horizontal" board, perhaps ;-)

This is great, both of them look better than the old design IMO. I personally prefer the new diagonal orientation.

OK, bug reports time:

1. In some of the boards (the plain black and white one, and the vertically oriented one), the sides are colored wrong. The black sides should be clockwise of the acute corners.

2. In the wood-colored version with truncated edges, I can't click to play my move. Tried both firefox and chrome on my mac.

14 Dec 2015

Thank you Richard, the new wood colored board with numbering is a big improvement !

I am having a problem that the board is showing up very tiny at the top with a huge player/game identification at the bottom...

Hello Richard, thanks, very good job! I love the wooden horizontal withequilateral triangular tiles. It will be difficult to play on it, but it's soo cool!

#33 · Bill LeBoeuf

It seems to depend on the size of the screen, my 27 inch screen is okay, 19 inch is not.

#34 · Jos Dekker

23 Dec 2015

Argh. I haven't realized the monthly cup is on 11x11. I would like to have 13x13 for the monthly cup.

I have never played on 11x11 :-( I'm afraid I'll be a beginner on that board.

#35 · Tom Ace

23 Dec 2015

I'm happy to see 11x11 as a variant but I'd like to retain the choice of playing in 13x13 cups/tournaments.  In any case, the labeling should be fixed.  The 11x11 monthly cup that  Jos and I are in was billed as 13x13 when we signed up for it.

#36 · lazyplayer

23 Dec 2015

i've registered to the infinity cup...

anyway, i still lobby for real time play at iggamecenter! :)

#37 · lazyplayer

23 Dec 2015

hmm, i've un-registered... too time consuming to play here really... :D

#38 · Arek Kulczycki

23 Dec 2015

lazyplayer, just register to single rated games and then to the champ when you gain on rating

#39 · Jos Dekker

24 Dec 2015

To Arek and Lazyplayer: I would be glad to play a 11x11 game or two on iggamecenter today or tomorrow (24 and 25 december), if you don't have too much Christmas stress. My player ist called "gozev" there. I have only played go there (only a few games) and a long long time ago. I haven't got the experience to play real time hex (only real time go up to 15 years ago in the Netherlands; I live in Germany now) and I have never played on a 11x11 board up to now (games just started here, but I really haven't got an idea what is good on this 11x11 board).

Maybe I see you?

Cheers

Jos

Thanks Richard. I like the new default board better than mine. I particuarly like that it's the ideal size for my smart phone display. No more two finger slide to fill the screen. And the pieces aren't themselves red to indicate last move any more.

#41 · lazyplayer

24 Dec 2015

Jos, i'll be there this evening and tomorrow evening...

We usually meet at that time, but not every evening. We coordinate via private msg here.

#42 · Marcin Pindral

27 Dec 2015

Hmmm...

Disregarding the fact about new boards and new size, do you guys remember times when we were playing on the website kurnik.pl? Games in 5 or 7 minute, tournaments - I think that was awesome :)

Best wishes!

28 Dec 2015

There still are realtime Hex tournaments, every Wednesday on Ludoteka if enough people show up. The time limit is one minute per player with 5 seconds increment per move. And there COULD be live Hex tournaments on Board Game Arena if a paid member were to sponsor one...

29 Dec 2015

Hi Austral! I'm not a BGA member anymore :) To be honest it's a very long time I don't play Colmena tournament on Ludoteka and I played just a few games on BGA. ...

Guys! I know I know, maybe it's a little bit early :) but I would like to know if you are thinking about "the only Hex live tournament" in Europe, next may in Paris :) It will be so cool to meet & play live there ;) ...  Austral? David? ...?

Hi Giupiter,

I didn't played a lot lately :(

I'll have to practice before a tournament ! !!
