Shalev, I thought move 37 was brilliant, I missed it and it looks to me like the winning move that perhaps Maciej missed too. At any rate he went into vacation time over it. :)

So how does he respond to 43. i6 rather than l4 ?

Very nice Daniel, I missed 60. h8

What I'm wondering is whether I have a winning move on turn 37 or not. Originally, I thought I was doing well after move 35, but I'm not sure anymore. What do you think?

Without any deeper analysis I would say that blue are ahead on 35 (a move which I consider far from perfect). I would go further backwards, because a line that I expected was like this: http://www.trmph.com/hex/board#13,e13e13d5d3c3c4e3e2d10f2g3i2h1e9j9j11l11k12l12j10l8l10e7d12c12d11c11e4d9e8d8f5h6

How about 41. k6 rather than j6?
24 Dec 2014
Arek, I also didn't like 29. f5 but I thought f7 was a stronger move rather than d9
24 Dec 2014
I thought move 35. e10 was pretty good - I still think that move probably wins, and that any other move on turn 35 probably loses. I'm less confident in move 29 - your suggestions are interesting.
25 Dec 2014
So if 35.e10 is winning, what is your improvement?
26 Dec 2014
I think just 37. j6 has a decent chance of winning there (I'm not 100% sure though). How do you beat 37. j6? link to trmph

How about 38.g9
26 Dec 2014
Bill: 39. i8 seems fine, for example this
26 Dec 2014
shalev, play on with black :)
don't play the easy way! ;)
26 Dec 2014
Arek, why not 39. i8? That seems to win really easily - what am I missing?
27 Dec 2014
true, dunno why I discarded it...
You're right, black win at 37 j6.
28 Dec 2014
if 37. j6 then 38. i8 and in my opinion white wins:

@shalev: Maciej is right, after 40 i7 comes
then my proposition is reasonable again:
28 Dec 2014
Wow
29 Dec 2014
Arek, I still think I win, try this line
29 Dec 2014
Shalev, you're right 40. h9 and 40. i7 are both bad tries. What about 40.i10?
29 Dec 2014
Try this. The idea is that if the i8 piece is connected to the h7 piece instead of the j10 group, black wins. But if the i8 piece connects to the j10 group instead of the h7 piece, white wins. So black needs to prevent that connection at all costs - hence 47.h9 in this line.

Heh, interesting, that seemed to me a simple position and I keep getting it wrong :) That is a good sympthon though, that on top level we still make plenty of errors, so there is much room to improve :)
30 Dec 2014
yep, my bad ;-) anyway i wanted to resign after your 37.g8 ...
