Hello, I have a quick question about hex.
In a few of my games, I was presented with the opportunity to push a ladder while being sure to connect in the end.

For instance, the moves leading to http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/game/game.jsp?gid=1481972&nmove=35

I thought for sure it was good for me, but then I started to wonder when the same situation happened in another couple of games, and all the times my opponent (much more experienced than me) let me push it all the way.

It seems to me that it is good for me, because it kinda makes my edge 2 rows closer than it was before, but maybe I'm wrong?
For instance I had the thought that pushing the ladder all the way has for side effect that now, moves threatening to break my connection are 100% forcing, while before I could ignore them if there was something more important... Though I don't see it coming into play really often...

What do you think?

In the game you linked to, pushing the ladder as far as possible was obviously good for you. This in effect moved your left edge two rows to the right. This is only because you had a guaranteed connection with b16. Without such a guaranteed connection, letting you push the ladder can simply mean blocking you. As it is in your example, letting you push it simply gives you free stones.

Ok, thanks for the answer, that's what I thought... I started doubting myself when I saw the exact same situation happen another couple of times...
