Hi, I'm a new hex player...
I've been playing other strategies games in the past (chess, go, shogi, etc.), and I really like how Hex has apparently the same amount of depth while keeping very simple rules.

Now I'm trying to improve my play, are there some resources online that would allow to study the games? Things like strategy books, problems, openings... I'd really appreciate any suggestion.

Thanks!

You could take a look at the HexWiki. There is also a book by Cameron Browne called "Hex Strategy: Making the right connections", but I wouldn't really recommend it, as I think it is a bit outdated.

My best advice would be to invite good players here at LG to unrated Hex-games, and to discuss the games while playing. Send me an invitation if you're interrested :-)

Thanks for the link, there seems to be a lot of information in there...

I've also sent you an invitation, and am looking forward to playing with you :)

I am a bit sad to see that the Hex forum is not very active...
I am wondering, since games such as Go or Shogi have national and international organisations dedicated to the promotion of the game, is there nothing similar
with Hex? From what I saw on the Internet, there seems to be very few offline hex events such as tournaments...

There is no governing body for Hex. There have been tournaments in Europe. There was one in Spain last year I believe. Online, LG has the biggest and strongest field of players, but there are other servers. Gamerz is turn-based like here. Game Center and Ludoteka are real time.

Hex will become popular when contemplative thought comes back into fashion. Not soon, in other words. Also there are many other abstracts to choose from. Speaking of which, you might also like Twixt :-)

Another nice resource is this webpage.
You could even look at this as a collection of puzzles, if the puzzle is "why does this template do what they say it does?"

"Hex will become popular when contemplative thought comes back into fashion. Not soon, in other words."

And not necessarily on Earth. Among future Martians with too much time on their hands, maybe.

Thanks, that's a nice link!
Is it cheating to play with this page opened at all time? ^^

And I thought Martians were supposed to play go, not hex :p
