Tarrocks? Haftarot? Haftaras? Stockist? Where do these words come from? Rockshaft?
Last time I asked such a question, Ray Garrison pointed out that Scrabble players know a lot of arcane words.

I have an 11 letter word and 62 points score I could have score more on the final play but I had already won so didn't spend long searching for perfection.

Michael already linked your game. Maybe there aren't any other 11 letter words played yet. I find playing "begalling" at move six at least as astounding as the 11 letter word. Managing to get the maximum score at any particular round later than, say, round 4 is awe inspiring.

Sorry didn't notice the link.

There are two 11 letters words:
APPARELLING in game #1222478
RESCATARIAN in game #1224040 (Spanish)
And there is twelve 10 letters words.
Two games #1222288, #1222478 have winner score 62. Game #1222288 has sum of both players 118 points - this is next record. There is only 5 games with more than 110 points.

I must admit that I do not know what a ROCKSHAFT is... It just seems to be in the list of strings recognized as words. This is by the way one aspect I hate in these word games.
But I like OSKI very much, because can feel like it stimulates my brain.
...and I r e a l l y wanted to beat michael in that game... :-D

this is funny, I just learn German at school and I don't speak much, yet I managed to win a game against a native speaker, getting 44 points while my record in Enlish is 48 in 25 games. looks like in German it's easier to find long words :)
30 Sep 2010
Yes, German has the best long words, like "Strassenbahnhaltestelle" for the English "tram stop".

If my opponent would've made a word like "strangers" in his last move, we would've had a combined score of 123 (63-60).
Sadly he could only come up with "so" for a 2-point finish.

i had no motivation for looking further ;-)

Link to my personal record :-) 122
Of course, this match has been some how "drugged" because the same letters could lead to many similar words, but we absolutely didn't try to make any sort of record.
1 Dec 2010
Uh by the way it also contains the 11-letters word "RITRATTARSI" :-)
1 Dec 2010
does Italian use any other letters than ERIAOTS? ;-)
10 Dec 2010
126 points

is this a new record (and we did fight, not cooperate)?

I would expect German to be the best for records. They build new longer words simply by concatenating two or more existing words.
Or maybe Hungarian? they have incredibly long words to begin with, and then build conjugations, prepositions, and cases by attaching more letters ('agglutinative language'), like 'megszentségteleníthetetlen'.

Congrats Aganju, good spelling. And the word 'megszentségtelenÃthetetlen' is not just made up, it actually means something: 'the one that cannot be desacralized'. it would be fun to have Hungarian version word games here.

my wife is born Hungarian. So... to know what mother-in-law says, I needed to pick up a bit... ;-)

112 points is higher than average, but not even close to the best. I just wanted to see if I know how to insert the board:

I found a 13-letter word once, which seems to make me the record holder in word length. The game ended 62 to 61 for me, beating Aganju...
