Is it just me, or are those Sunjang starting positions popping up more than once? Is Richard running some kind of secret experiment on us?"

lol - Sunjang Baduk is sooooo 16th century. As I think you know (based on how I have always lost to you), Toroidal-Go is the future!

Sunjang on Little Golem is different from historical Sunjang Baduk. Here the starting positions are allegedly random (but somehow they appear more than once).

Toroidal Go, just like random Sunjang, are just funny variants, good to throw away your intuition. Actually the 13x13 has the same effect, curiously the 9x9 doesn't.

Corners have their own mistique, I wouldn't throw them away. During my own life the josekis totally changed about four times.

And I am sure I lost to you a few times, Sighris.

I agree the way play goes in the corners of the traditional Go boards (flat squares) is mysterious; and I was not saying we should throw away the traditional boards... Only that Toroidal-Go has the special beauty of having every playing intersection having the same number of liberties (exactly 4)... And a type of purity (for lack of a better word) in there being no boundaries and thus no edges with only 3 liberties and corners with only 2 liberties. And I was joking.... 3D Go is the future! ...but I'll settle for 15x15 Toroidal-Go! ;-)
