Why do the top dots players seem to leave the site relatively shortly after starting playing here. I have only been on the site for a short time but I've seen it happen with sghsal, Dryad, Smoores, fairytail (although I may have not played her enough to know if she is a top players, she is very good certainly).

they were all among the best when they were playing but stayed a relatively short time on the site. Geoff Cameron seems to be the only top player who has been consistently on the site for a long time (although it seems that he only plays championships now) well also michael I guess although he seems less competitive these days. Other good players like JJ10, Tumrak and aldiris have stayed here consistently but the very best always seem to quit. Is this game too hard on the brain if you want to do really well?

Or are some of these good players the same person?

I think the best dots player we've had here, wccanard, quit because he found he was spending too much time here. He said that playing seriously on the top level took too much time, plus he found himself checking the site for new moves far too often. And LG DOES eat a lot of time. My advice to people who consider quitting: Try stepping down the number of games first. For example, play only in the championship. Maybe that is manageable?

It may be Geoffs trick. For some I think it is also possible to just play less seriously in the monthly cup (for example relying more on intuition rather than counting the game out). But some people don't like to not play to their fullest in rated games.

flipster was a better player than wccanard, at a point, and he also left. I think the main reason is boredom, it may be due to lack of serious challenge or because playing the same game many times bores some people. As for me and apparently wccanard, it was certainly the lack of time to play serious games.

Christian, I can assure you, all the top players you mentioned are different persons. When Jeena and Scotty left yahoo dots and started playing here they spammed the site with a lot of accounts and kept starting to play over and over again. This might be the reason for the confusion about different accounts on same players, however, FairyTail and Smoores have been their final accounts.

about the issue of being bored: isnt it especially one sided because the opening lines people play are always the same? i rarely see a different opening line then f3 when looking at high-level games. theres geoff cameron who plays h7, but he doesnt vary his play either. i actually find this a little sad, because theres a lot potential in different lines and i think it would be interesting to try different lines from time to time.

if anyone wants to practice something new in an unrated game -> Link to practice

According to Dryad the analysis part is boring.
