Hi. What's the deal with the leagues and groups? I'm guessing that the winners of each group in a given league play off. Yeah? But then do the league winners play off? If not, then why the segregation, and how do you qualify to get into a fancier league? It seems to me that your ranking is not especially relevant to your upward mobility.
This really ought to be explained on the FAQ page. I expect I could find the answer to this question somewhere in the 44 pages of previous postings, but my patience won't stretch that far. Sorry. Just refer me to the relevant thread if there is one.

You can find the info at FAQ - tournament.

I could not understand it, either.
The FAQ says: "The first 2 of each league advance to a better league in the next tournament". But if I look at the Hex13 championship: http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/games/gamedetail.jsp?gtid=hex&page=ch
I see that Tim Shih won in League 4 in championship 7, so he should advance to league 3 in championship 8 ? But he is in league 1 in championship 8 ! He is very strong, so he is where he should be, but it doesn't help me understanding how the championships work.

Yes, some additional rules were added to the Championship because it takes so much time to finish and because more and more players starts to play on LittleGolem.
So, if you are in the first ten players by the rating and you never played in league 1 of the Championship then you go directly to league 1.
This rule was added while Tim was playing in a lesser league but when the next Championship started he went directly to league 1, based on his rating.

Oops. I guess I didn't look closely enough at the FAQ. Sorry.
