I have heard that in Gomoku, the first player is 100% win, is that true ? Do you know the SureWin move ? And, which Gomoku Program that you think is the best ?

Please help me answer these question . Thank you very much

You are correct that gomoku has been 'weakly' solved (weakly means from the standard starting position). The proof is quite interesting -- they solve a number of subproblems as patterns and show from them that you can use sequences of patterns to force a win. From memory I read it in "Games of No Chance" but I could be wrong about the source.

However, golem implements a variation of gomoku in which black's second move cannot be near the first. This significantly reduces black's advantage, and may even give white an advantage. To my knowledge this variation has not been studied mathematically, and it would be significantly harder to solve.

I do not know of any especially strong gomoku playing programs. I implemented a program myself for amusement once, and I know emacs plays a 'fair' game of gomoku. I'm sure a google search will turn up many hits -- it is a popular undergraduate assignment.

Victor Allis is The Man! He also solved 7x6 four-in-a-row. His thesis is actually quite instructive, and I have found it much more helpful for playing the 8x8 version than the Allen article (basically the only two sources of 4IR strategy on the web).
