I see that there are players who have register in tournament, start - or no start - game and next don't go to littlegolem.
If it is MC or RT - ther is no problem - it will be some games lost by time. But in championship.... In future lower leaue will be only for newbe in LG and "dead souls"...
And there is one simple way to avoid such problem - when chamiponship start, only players, who were connected at least once in past month should be added to groups ( sections) .And rest - simply aumataically unregistered.
Or another way - player, who lost in last year more than 5 games by losing time. Or another may be - the aim is that person, who are not interested NOW in games shuld be removed from tournaments - with MC and RT it is simple, becouse you have to register to EVERY tournament you will play - but in chamipnship when you register once you will start in one torunament... and next... and after 5 years ine next...
It is good idea OT MUST to register in every edition- but just it should be any possibility to automotically remove no-active players.
I think like tournaments like this:
http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/tournament/tournament.jsp?trnid=amzn.ch.6.3.2
And "daniel miller" in this group, who are not connected to LG more than month...
The same in group 3 - with mirella.... And I see that are person, which are registered in another chamiponships....
What do you think about it?

Another suggestion I have seen on this subject, and which seems quite efficient, is that players have to sign up for vacations manually. The players who register, sign up for tournaments and then disappear will time out after only 10 days instead of 30.

sometimes somebody MUST go without possibility go to internet... this kind of vacation.hoilidys is GOOD.
But is NOT good, that in NEW tournament can be players, who don't play for loooong time....

There's exactly one week from the end of one championship (including the lower leagues) until the start of the next. I think that allows for a relatively elegant solution.
My suggestion is that at the time the old championship ends, all players enrolled in the championship who have not logges on within the past 3 weeks, must respond to an email or be automatically removed.

I think there actually IS a mechanism for removing "dead souls" from championships. If I'm not mistaken, a player who has lost ALL of his games in a championship due to time, is removed from the championship roster. I think this is a good way to do it. I'm not sure if it's implemented or not, but I THINK it is...

Very good proposition. but I suggest to make longer such time: up 31 days...
Why 31?
EVERYBODY have 240 hours + 20 days vacation. So if somebody are out of LG more than 30 days it is sure he have NO games or lost EVERY game because of time...
If it is only 30 days may be smoebody have just last 1 hour, he is on vacatiosn and return just few minutes after new championship begin... So 31 dasy should be goood.. And easy to remember - you have to log into LG once a month if you are interested in playing in championship.
I can imagine, that it is a go player, who wants only play with good opponents in league... So he end his games and waits for another edition. But even for him logging once a month into LG is not very big problem:) Just for checking if new edition starts or not:)

If there is such automat like in MARIUS proposition it can be good, too...

I think the current policy (if I'm remembering an old post from Richard correctly) is to remove anyone who has not logged in in 60 days. I don't think it has anything directly to do with timing out in previous games.
So in a rapid game, like Go 9x9, one could forfeit all ones games and still be in the next cycle. (And maybe even the one after that, if your forfeits didn't happen until the tournament was well under way.)
