Feature request: Vacation day counter reset

Public forum discussion.

Hi Richard,

(and everyone who maintains LG),

Please don't just reset everyone's "vacation day counter" to 20 days (on 2004-Jan-01).

Instead, please add one vacation day to everyone's vacation day counter each 18 days.

On Dec-20, I still have many vacation days left.

It isn't fair, that all vacation day counters will be resetted on a random date (like January, 1st). It 'd be more fair, if LG's "vacation day counting" would be a permanent process: Please add one vacation day each 18 days to every LG user instead (up to a maximum, e.g. 20 days per year).

Kind regards,

Frank

PS: One additional vacation day each 18 days = 365.24 days per year / 20 days (LG's current maximum of vacation days per year).

I dont get why this system should be more fair. You still get 20 days a year and 20 days at max.

Your system would not suit those who are out of days now and plan to stay away in first half of next year.

Yes, yes, yes! It wouldn't be fair at all!

But what is fair? Suppose someone is away 20 days in December and 20 days in Januari. He won't go out-of-time. Now someone who is away for 20 days in Januari and 20 days in December (of the same year of course). He will lose everything, even though his vacations are far more apart! Frank's idea isn't that bad...

Having a vacation pool is an excellent idea.

In games here, we all start w/ 240 hours and gain 36 hours per move. Similarly, we should all start w/ X vacation days, and earn vacation days (or hours) as time passes.

Or course, to be fair, on Jan. 1, all current members should be reset with a full pool of vacation days.

New members need not start w/ a full vacation pool, but need to remain active to build up their vacation pool. This would also shorten the game timeouts of players who start a tournament on their first connection, then never connect again.

Another site has it where you get your vacation days back a year after you used them. ex. Gone on January 1, 2002 and you'd get that day back on January 1, 2003.

What I meant with "unfair" is, that currently some users will get 20 additional vacation days on Jan-01, while others will get 0 additional vacation days on Jan-01.

Ok, one may argue that the rules are the same for every user, thus it isn't "unfair". Agreed.

Nevertheless I prefer a decission "add one (or zero) vacation days" 20times throughout the year, instead of the current implementation of "add 0 to 20 vacation days" once a year.

My argument:

On Dec-02 a new LG user starts his first tournament. But he doesn't submit any move ...

Scenario #1 (current implementation):

Dec-02: starting with 240 hours main time

Dec-12: 0 hours main time left,

vacation day counter (20) starts to count down

Dec-31: still 1 vacation day left

Jan-01: vacation day counter resetted to 20 days

Jan-20: the games time-out

Summary: 50 days :-( required until the games time out

Scenario #2 (my suggestion):

Dec-02: starting with 240 hours main time

Dec-12: 0 hours main time left,

vacation day counter (10) starts to count down

Dec-20: one vacation day added

Dec-23: the games time-out

Summary: 21 days required until the games time out

Summary:

\* With 10 initial vacation days for new LG users + 1 additional vacation day each 18 days, every new LG user can use up to 3 weeks of vacation initially.

\* Permanent visitors of LG's site are rewarded with the option to take longer vacations. (Because one vacation day will be added each 18 days).

\* Games with "disappeared" new LG users will time out earlier.

\* No disadvantages for LG's frequent players. Because one additional vacation day each 18 days is (about) equal to resetting the vacation day counter to 20 days once a year on a random date (like Jan-01).
