20 Years on Little Golem

Hello,
today is a special day for me, because after so much time, I’m celebrating 20 years of playing on this website.
During these 20 years, many good things have happened to me — like having my two children. I’ve been very happy for many reasons, although I’ve also had difficult moments, like everyone does. But I’ve always kept playing as a way to escape from everyday life.

I want to thank Richard Malaschitz for all the wonderful moments I’ve experienced playing here, without ever asking for anything in return — completely free, and without bombarding us with ads.
I know that nowadays new technologies have made many people lose interest in board games, but there are still many of us who truly enjoy them.

I’m not the first to reach 20 years of playing, and I won’t be the last. I just hope this message doesn’t get lost, like so many others I’ve seen on the forum that went unanswered.

Thank you to everyone who has been playing and continues to do so.
I hope this message gives you, Richard, the strength to keep up the amazing work you’re doing.

Best regards,
Olivier

Thumbs up.

Happy golemversary!

Long live Little Golem!

I haven't been here for so long, but I share the sentiment. This feels like one of the nicest places in the internet, a personal, human place. I hope to be here in 20 years and more.

I also celebrated 20 years of littlegolem on sept 15. But I have played only 25% of the number of moves that Diamante has played (he has made 1,187,046 moves as of today). Has anyone made more moves than that?

Do you remember this post “How many players with more than 5000 games?”? I had to travel back in time to find it, haha.

Richard made a list of the top 10 players based on games played and games in progress.

It’s a pity that many of them are no longer playing with us.

I think I’ve got the most games played on the site right now — or am I wrong?

TWO thumbs up! I agree and have a similar feeling and situation (except no children).
I came here, to LG, to play Toroidal-Go in 2013, and have enjoyed the website (and the conversations with LG gamers) much.
A big thanks to Richard Malaschitz for creating this website. Also thanks to Malcolm Schonfield who created a website to analyze Toroidal-Go games... And all of my Go-friends/ game-opponents that have made playing here fun.

I like this!

Next month 15 years for me. I don't play so much compared to 15 years ago when I arrived there but I never stopped.

Not the 20 year celebrations we're talking about, but thank you for contributing.

It's good that the hair is ethically sourced, though, and makes me wonder: Are the meeples used on LittleGolem ethically sourced? Did they put their little signatures on fair little meeple work contracts?

I also have spent more than twenty years on LG (20th of February) without noticing as LG is part of my life.
I think of LG community as a big circle of interesting people, I enjoy reading the small things they exchange and they nearly feel as friends (I feel bad when a long term member does not return a greeting on a new game).
Thanks Richard for being always efficiently present without imposing on us except for new games and bug corrections !
I would like more people to appreciate that and register from year to year if their situation allows for it.

Thank you all, and please post from time to time your interesting thoughts, game related or not.

I have only been here for 15 years. I have completed over 1100 games here, and I'm happy to have a score above 50% - and to my mind, that's an achievement in itself, considering the level of tough competitors we have at this site.

For a few highlights, I'm happy to have made friends with a few of the players here. I actually arranged a live Twixt gathering in NY City some years back and met 3 other players!

But for me, I'd say that my best achievement was back in 2012, when having done well in section 3 championships in Twixt and in 4-in-a-Row, I was now playing in section 2 championships for both games. In each championship, I was up against tough competition - in fact, I was the lowest rated player in each group. I remember saying to myself: "please don't finish in last place - at least make some kind of good showing". Well, I got my wish - and in each section I finished right in the middle of the pack, with dead-even scores. Hooray!! Well, at least I was pleased. Meow!

On another topic, NOW IS THE SEASON TO BE MERRY. I second Carroll's above comment - and really wish that more players here would sign on for membership. It just cost me $23 dollars to re-up - and I'm not even playing any games now! But Richard has done a lot of work to bring us this site, and perhaps we might reward him with a little extra cash so he can buy Christmas presents for his family! Happy Thanksgiving to all! Gobble.
