Hi guys,

I guess you all already discussed about this but... I don't get what the "Rank" means?

Do we have an option to see the Rating instead of the Rank?

There is a switch at the bottom of each game page.

Ranks come from the tradition of Go and are just a different scale to display the same information. Go players would typically prefer those.

I guess I don't get where is this button.

Also.. if it gives the same information how is it possible to see someone 2000 elo being 9 kyu and someone 1850 elo being 6 kyu :D

Ranks is probably measured by hightest rating every achieved by player on considered game/wariant.

Hightest rating ever. Sorry for error, my phone don't have spelling check for english.

Oh, I never checked that. Is that in the same game? (2000 vs 1850 elo) Could be that Richard uses different formulas for different games, for example to be closer to rankings on other servers. Pure speculation of course.

Highest rating ever might also be the answer, although that would be very unusual. (It is used that way in proffesional go ranks though.)

Florian, go to one of your games, Scroll down and look for a blue button Rating/Rank.

An explanation of kyu/dan is on the FAQ page, click on Ratings. Apparently you never slip backwards on this ladder, and you have to win a certain number of games to advance.

Thanks David, for digging that up. I like that concept I must say the only minor quibbles I have are a) that switching options sort of implies equivalence and b) the kyu/dan naming implies being close to what is used in Go traditionally.

I want to reach rank x is a nice motivational goal now, especially wehn your rating is already high enough or nearly high enough for x.
