Hello everyone. This topic is inspired by the discussion of the go variant with stacks, where there was a phrase that "it adds one more dimension to ko fights". I thought about the possibilities of playing in 3-dimensional, and even in 4-dimensional space. The game of go itself, most likely, cannot be easily expanded to higher dimensions. But other games on the territory can.
Let's look at some of them.
Fendo: just like in go, it is necessary to surround the territory here. But the capture of the surrounded stones is not the goal, and therefore there is no question who surrounded whom. The only problem is - how to adequately display the situation on the board, because in addition to the cells with stones, walls also need to be displayed. But this problem is solvable. It may seem that the configuration of the resulting mazes in a cube and especially in a hypercube (tesseract) will be very confusing and even brain-boggling. But this is not necessarily a disadvantage. I myself would be happy to try to play on a board with a size of for example 5x5x4 (100 cells, 10 stones), or 3x3x3x3 (81 cells, 9 stones).
Tumbleweed: Since it is easy to display only cubic and hypercubic lattices for higher-dimensional spaces, it seems that we should count on them. In the 2-dimensional version, the lattice is hexagonal. But if this is due to the number of lines of sight, then there will also be 6 of them in the cubic lattice, and probably the 3-dimensional version will be playable.
Reversi/Othello (this can also be considered a game for territory): It seems that the variants of the 3- or 4-dimensional game are implemented naturally without any problems. I am even somewhat surprised that there is no such option yet.
For those who have a question, what is all this for, I have an answer.
Two-dimensional games can be played quickly. You can play in rapid and blitz mode. There are many resources online with these games. Brain-breaking games require time for reflection and where to play them if not on an offline resource?
