Every online board gaming site I've played on always displays the board as seen by the first player, the second player sees exactly the same view, in the real world the second player would see the board turned 180 degrees.

Not necessarily. A kid I once played chess with strongly preferred to look at the board from the side. So for him it would only be 90 degrees off!

jet stream, I see you have played chess 960 on this site, which I know from personal experience shows each player's side at the bottom of their screen in all cases. The same is true for Shogi, and doubtless standard chess as well. Are you posting with regards to Go? This is the general forum.

Along that line, it would be cool if Toroidal Go were rendered with an actual 3D torus model, able to be rotated in all the fun ways one can rotate a torus, to emulate the two players' perspectives as well as that of any observers. It's very unlikely the game would look the way it does on here unless we played in a spacetime with massively positive curvature.
