Seems like there have been a couple of very successful abstract strategy Kickstarter events going on recently. First was the project for Santorini, which is over $300k. Now Tak is reaching more than $250k by its second day. It combines connection and stacking, which really interests me. Pyramid Arcade isn't so large, but includes some abstract strategy.
Sometimes it seems like the new board game renaissance has focused exclusively on thematic games, and the design of quality abstract strategy games has really lagged in the last 5 years or so. Maybe these projects will demonstrate that abstract strategy can still be really viable? Could be exciting!
