I'm new here, and I can't seem to find reference to how to change board styles. Shogi shows a few different styles of pieces, but I can't see how to decide which you get. Also, I thought there were two different hex board styles, but can't see how to change that either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it got lost in a recent site re-design. I am hoping that it gets restored soon.
Looking at the Shogi rules page, there is a link which looks proming "You can choose from your characters for Kanji set:", but it generates a 500 error (I see some references to "GameTwixt.TWIXT_BOARD_PROP", so there is clearly a configuration error of some sort).
Looking at the Twixt rules page, I see the following quote: "If you click on "Login/New User" in the left column and then "Edit user properties" you can choose an alternate graphics display for the board."
However, "Login/New User" has redesigned and thus "Edit user properties" is no longer there.
In the upper right, the new home of similar functionality, there are "Player Info" and "My Profile" settings, neither of which allows you access this feature.
All in all, I think you did a fine job looking, and I hope you'll be patient as Richard finishes cleaning up the remaining issues with the new design.

using the waybackmachine, I am able to pull up old littlegolem pages. Originally you could edit shogi, hex and twixt at this address:
http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/info/properties/property.jsp but this link no longer is working.
I suggest that you write a message to the webmaster and hopefully he will correct this.

Thanks for your replies.
I'll assume that if I noticed it, others who have been here for a while and liked board styles they can no longer access will have noticed it and said something already. It's not a pressing matter in any event. I simply asked because I thought I must have been missing something.

I use the same board styles that I selected under the old site, so no need for veteran players to select their preferred board style. However, new players do not seem to have that option, but it is probably just an oversight on Richard's part, so again, I recommend you drop him a quick message.

How might I do that? I know that his name is Richard, but I have looked all over the site trying to find his contact.

hmmm, the "email webmaster" link also seems to not exist anymore, his name is Richard Malaschitz. Go to the main forum, and look for the topic "new design". Richard was the one who started that forum topic. You can click on his name then send him a message from there. Good luck!

The chess analysis board is also missing.

Richard IS here; I'm in the middle (near the end) of a Twixt game against him AS WE SPEAK. The thing is, this is HIS site, and he must have many other activities on his plate; he only moves around once per week, and obviously responds to emails and forum posts even more infrequently.
Yes, Dvd, THE CHESS ANALYSIS BOARD IS ALSO MISSING, and this has been a bit of a pain for me. In truth, one comes up in tournament Chess knowing that no analysis aids are permitted: pocket boards, written notes, etc. But this is NOT 'tournament chess'; this is 'postal'. We are entitled to analyze using whatever tools we have at hand, provided that those tools are not analysis engines.
Maybe it's been healthy for me; playing chess games without an analysis aid. However, what I've been doing is copying game positions into chess software, and moving pieces and analyzing from there. A bit of a pain in the ass, I must say, but can be done. The software I've been using is 'Waxman', which is a free download and simple enough.
But I really wish Richard would actually RESPOND to the multitude of posts citing problems with the site. I have contributed, as has Dvd, and many others. I really appreciate the playing space Richard has provided us, but Richard: PLEASE SAY SOMETHING TO LET YOUR MEMBERS KNOW THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF THEIR CONCERNS.
