When will games be terminated?

Public forum discussion.

I have three games where my opponent has used all his time and is now -14, -18 and -24 hours behind. None of them have any vacation left.
So when will these games be terminated?

Cheers,

How do you know of the absence of vacation days?

Anyway. It will happen as soon as the daemon that should detect negative hours sees them, wants to add a vacation day and doesn't find any. Just be patient, the games will end eventually.

Thanks for the info.
About the vacation days. When players are on vacation then the time will not become negative, because a vacation day is always added when that would happen. Also you will see on their profile, when they are on vacation.

Strange thing...
One of these players is a bot.

Showing negative time is not a way to know if your opponent has vacation days left. When the daemon is not running, vacations are not used either. If he plays before the daemon runs again, he won't use any vacation. The way to know for sure is to see if he has already lost games in time in the same year.

This is annoying and unfair, since players who lose on time have ranks and they are much stronger than their rank which biases everyone else's ranks. Also in tournaments they introduce bias by giving wins for free to some players while they increase other player's workload or even beat them.

I suggest:

1. The system should not allow playing with negative time.
2. Players who lose on time should not have ranks or in any way influence the rating system.
3. When someone loses a tournament game on time, all his other games in the same tournament are removed and everyone is scored as if he had never played the tournament.

@erratic

I fully support your suggestions!

What I don't understand though is: How can it happen that a Bot (in my case Rankabot) does not move in time?

erratic, I would add

4. Get rid of the daemon and convert what it does to daemon-free methods.

to your list of suggestions.

Rankabot is the site's own internal bot, negative hours, and that bot not playing probably go hand in hand.

I agree with #3, but not #2. With #2, if I don't care about titles, I can just play out the games in which I am winning and let the others run out on time, and I will never risk losing any rating. Then my opponents will start doing the same thing and no games get ranked...

I did not explain it right. I meant like in KGS where users chose if they want to have a rating or not.

As I meant it, if you lose on time (on a turn based server this is way less excusable than in real time where losing on time is part of the game) you would be de-ranked, you would have no rating. So you could not use it for cheating of your rating.

It's interesting. Of course after some time/games without loss by time player should be reranked.
However I think it's not enough improvement to be worth extra work to implement this.

Suddenly every opponent is on 24 hours plus, and if I check their profile it is said "on vacation".
Even Ranka Bot is on vacation. I didn't know that Bots need vacations...;)

I am pretty concerned about proposition 3. I do want players on time to be autoremoved from tournaments like champ and infinity in the future but to let them loose there games in the championship as default seems to cure a problem with another problem somehow.

Also having players without ranks in tournaments would make me consider unsubscribing.
