No second round

In september 2012, it seems like there will be no second round in D&B:

is this common in other games? I have never seen it before.

..especially with such a huge ammount of groups

It's not common, but I've seen it before in other games too.

how does the monthly cup work? only the winners advance to the next round?
If there are 2 winners in one month, does the next round consist of only one game?

But there were only two groups in first round.

@Valette_Renoux: You are right. For example consider some monthly cups of the game Amazons (since there are so little players, thus a small amount of groups generally): http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/games/championship.jsp?trnid=amzn.mc.2012.jul.1.1. Here only two players are playing each other in the second round. However, in case there is only one group in first round and there are multiple winners, there won't be a second round: http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/games/championship.jsp?trnid=amzn.mc.2012.sep.1.1. (whereas multiple winners of first rounds usually face each other in the following rounds).
