This is GREAT NEWS :)

Please please PLEASE this time add monthly cups for them. They get that in both hex 13x13 and 19x19 too and it really benefits the community for the game!

seconded, I just ordered my physical set of Dobutsu Shogi, which is my first shogi set at all

Ah, the advantages of being European... Dobutsu Shogi sets are not delivered to South America... I'll probably build my own. I do own a regular set, though.

BTW, someone please, please write a plugin for showing Dobutsu pieces here in LG! 8-)

I'll hold out for 1x1 shogi

1x3 shogi is a great teaching tool for the concept of "Zugzwang"

I don't think the rules of 3x4 shogi has been implemented properly if it accords to the rules of Dobutsu Shogi that Kitao Madoka has set. It has a touchdown(try) rule. If your King reaches the farthest row without exposing in check, you should win the game. I did it in my game but the LG did not end it and I lost in the next move. I would like LG to follow the original rules of Dobutsu Shogi.

The position I made a touchdown(try) is here at the 14th move

I definitely agree with Takodori, this should be his win.

As a non-regular Shogi player I wasn't aware of this rule, however the rules on LG do mention it so it's my fault for not checking. I agree that Takodori should be awarded the win in this case.

However it wasn't made clear that these mini-variants had extra rules. For example I've both won and lost a game of 4x3 because one player didn't realise that rooks and bishops were limited to one square. I'm sure it's not just myself who assumed that the board size and piece setup were the only differences.

Possibly one for future, but when new variants are introduced it would be good to direct players to the rules if there are any significant changes.

"rooks" are actualy giraffes and "bishops" elephants; "kings" are lions and "pawns" are little chicken (I think they're called roosters after promotion)

That's for Dobotsu (3x4) Shogi

Richard, thanks for your quick fix.

can you dro chicken on the furthest rank?

I think there are no restrictions at all on pawn drops, so it should be possible to drop on the furthest rank... On 81dojo, which is in partnership with the creator of dobutsu shogi, it is allowed.

It seems the current implementation of the game here doesn't allow it, though.

No, it would be a pawn that can never move.
