Looking at the results from the first two tournaments and the placement of teams in the third:
Everyone was put in a single group for the first tournament and finished in the following order (using team captain's name, first to last):
Looser, Burton, somar96, kpato, Matteo A., Cane, Diamante, MRFvR, The Tible, k man, Richard Malashitz
Second tournament was broken into two groups.
Finish order group 1 (placement in last tourney in parentheses):
Looser (1), Burton (2), Matteo A. (5), Cane (6), kpato (4), MRFvR (8), somar96 (3)
Finish order group 2 (placement in last tourney in parentheses):
Paul Gautherot (new), Domi (new), mungo (new), pensando (new), Hjallti (new), The Tible (9), Richard Malashitz (12), k man (11)
Places 7, 10 dropped from the tournament, and the groups are the same size so it seems that the top half of teams got put in the higher bracket with newcomers placed as though they had gotten last in the previous tournament.
Third tournament also broken in two groups.
Group 1 (placement in last tourney in parentheses, A refers to group 1, B to group 2):
Cane (4A), Matteo A. (3A), Paul Gautherot (1B), MRFvR (6A), Burton (2A), somar96 (7A), Looser (1A), kpato (5A), Domi (2B)
Group 2 (placement in last tourney in parentheses, A/B as before):
mungo (3B), The Tible (6B), k man (8B), pensando (4B), Hjallti (5B), Mo Yi (new)
Places 6A, 7B dropped from the tournament. This time the groups are different sizes for some reason. I suspect that there will be two levels to the tournament as long as number of teams remains in the same ballpark. It seems that 1st and 2nd place in the lower group get promoted, although last place in the higher group did not get relegated (bumped up because 2nd to last dropped out maybe?). My guess is that under normal circumstances the top 2 of the lower group and the bottom 2 of the higher group switch.

Of course I should have said level 1/level 2, instead of group 1/ group 2, oops.

@ Apple Pi - Your recollection of teams dropping out of SSTC is not precise. There was 11 teams in first ch and only Diamante(7) drop out before 2nd ch. Only AxonPro(7B) dropped out after 2nd ch. Team 6A (mine) certainly did not!
Apart from that, it seems that Apple PI and me got to very similar conclusions.

@MRFvR You're correct on both points of course, I should get my vision checked perhaps, or learn to count :)
