All the prediction messages from RoRoRo no longer display correctly.
10 Apr 2012
I'm working on it, high priority...
Don't expect it to look anywhere as near as good, initially...

Would it be possible to make the text somewhat smaller?
10 Apr 2012
Try refresh page for reload _base.css_ file.
10 Apr 2012
That works!
Hmmm, RoRoRo just crashed....

Yes it might look not as nice as before, but the good news is, I think all possibilities to inject javascript are now eliminated. Before you could just do something like this and js was executed automatically:

oops, looks like it's still possible.

The first paragraph of the cited Wikipedia article about Textile says "...inserts character entity references for apostrophes, opening and closing single and double quotation marks...". That worked in maraca's post where he says "it's still possible". The source has his apostrophe as ’, which I presume is some kind of apostrophe.
But the quotes in maraca's second-previous post to that look awful. The opening quotes are ['a' with a circumflex][Euro sign][diphthong oe] and the closing quotes are ['a' with a circumflex][Euro sign][four doohickies in a rectangle]. The source is

I.e. I don't see any improvement over the pre-textile display, if textile is supposed to be something the server does. If it's something posters have to put into our posts, then it's understandable if we presume maraca didn't.

Looks like a standard utf8-double-encoding bug, the bane of websites everywhere.
It's been utf-8 encoded, and then that binary data's been HTML entity-encoded.
Which is the wrong way round. HTML's the high level protocol, that should be generated first, and then as utf-8's effectively the character transport protocol that should encode the character stream output of the HTML encoder. (Which could be a no-op if you're encoding everything non-ASCII into entities.)
Never work with utf8, it's evil. Emit it if you must, but never work with it internally as you *will* mess things up somewhere.

WOW!
Thanks Richard!. Im too lazy to do it in other manner.

The apostrophes in this forum topic are working, but I just posted (2012-04-11) in the Tour de Little Golem discussion topic and the same innocent little ASCII apostrophes (') are loused up.
Is this inconsistency somehow due to Textile? Are an even number of apostrophes, including those that obviously form contractions or possessives, erroneously paired into opening and closing quotes?

After copy and paste, simply replace the single apostrophs. They look identical but obviously aren't ;-) .

Hmmm, Looking at the D&B championship predictions, I notice that it's impossible to write -Astrid-'s name correctly, as when it sees the '-' characters, it thinks I'm trying to italicise the thing between them.
14 Apr 2012
Sorry, _Astrid_, with '_' characters. I wouldn't have made that mistake if I could have seen the characters in her(?) nick. Then again, I wouldn't have been making the post either.
14 Apr 2012
Why did it turn the two "'" characters into a different pair of characters in '-' from those in '_'?
14 Apr 2012
Ah, it thinks that the "'" in -Astrid-'s is the start of a matching pair, and that the "'" at the start of '-' is its match. The second one seems to go unmatched, it looks like it's 'clever' enough to not include "it's" and "I'm" as candidates for closing a pair of "'"s.
How 'smart' of it.
15 Apr 2012
Looks like an escape character is missing. The only work-around I know is to put two dashes instead of one. --Astrid-- or alternatively put something in front \-Astrid-
15 Apr 2012
But the name isn't dash-dash-Astrid-emdash, or backslash-dash-Astrid-dash.
(And if it dicks with those dashes, I will be truly unimpressed...)
15 Apr 2012
I don't expect _%Astrid%_ to work, as the span could be inside the italics, and thus still affected. However, %_%Astrid%_% might work, as the italics started inside each span cannot escape from that span.
