As most of you must have seen, now we have teams here on LG. Hooray!

Now what?

Will we have team tournaments (like SSTT) or will they work more like MMORPGs' guilds?

(I'm happy either way, as you can infere by my creation of two Teams, even though I don't now we what they're for!).

If we'll have team tournaments, the most popular choices for first tournament seem to be StreetSoccer and EinStein, although Reversi should be considered as well, for tradition sake (at least, my memory seem to recall a reversi team tournament here, but can't be sure since never been active in the Reversi scene).

The first team tournament(s) in golem were Hex tourneys, many years ago.

Then came Reversi (tourney was called: Big Challenge).

StreetSoccer was next (and most popular).

Thankz again Richard!

Can someone fill me in on how the team tourneys work?

How many players on a team, do teams only play other teams, (and not individuals) can games be rated and unrated, is it a round robin type of format, etc., etc.

Not only am I curious but eventually I want to update the FAQ regarding this.

Thanks in advance.

The problems of an owner playing against their bot comes up frequently, due to the potential for fixing of the result either way.

Would there be any issues with an owner being on the same team as their bot?

It seems to be a new addition (at least I haven't seen it before) but teams now we have a FAQ

#7 · Ed Collins

This helps a lot. I hadn't seen that link. Thanks.

Removing a team does not work.

So be careful, once you create one, you are stuck with it, and as you can be only in one, your stuck in your own one.

#9 · KPT

14 May 2011

not true.

I Created 2 teams in Einstein.

I Was in Badluck, and i remove myself , and joined to Serepindity :)

#10 · Aganju

14 May 2011

well how do you do it? I click on 'Remove team - this action is not reversible !', and it is still there afterwards.

I was able to remove myself from my own team, but I cannot delete the team.

So actually, yes I could probably join another team now, but I still have an empty team sitting there.

#11 · KPT

14 May 2011

You are right, i cant remove BL-Bad Luck.

but it is just a bug, Richard will fix it.

#12 · KPT

14 May 2011

The Teams are sorted by rating weight?

#13 · Ingo Althofer

14 May 2011

I would like to join a team in EinStein,

but only as a non-playing captain.

Is that possible?

Ingo

#14 · KPT

14 May 2011

what do u mean with non-playing captain?

U want to be coach?

#15 · KPT

14 May 2011

PD: Ingo, of course u are welcome in ANY team!

#16 · Ingo Althofer

14 May 2011

Hi kp4to,

> what do u mean with non-playing captain?

> U want to be coach?

Yes, somehow in the sense of Waldorf and Statler (the seniors

in the Muppet team).

Ingo

#17 · KPT

14 May 2011

Well, everyone is available to create a new team.

U can create a new one, and remove yourself of the players.

But you still manage the team. like the "Bad Luck Team" (i could not delete this team, i dont know why, surely it's a bug)

in other case, u will be welcome on the SERENDIPITY Team :)

Can team leaders just initiate team tournaments, or how do they start? Are they starting already? Do other members have any say so?

#19 · Ed Collins

15 May 2011

All good questions. Here's a few more: Will a record be kept of each teams wins and losses? Will each team eventually have a rating? Will one team be able to challenge another team?

#20 · MRFvR

16 May 2011

@kp4to (long time ago message) Teams are indeed sorted my rating average. IMHO the rating average used for this purpose should consider only the top 4 players of each team (just like is usually done in chess team tournaments), for a more realistic prediction of possible outcome.

#22 · Ed Collins

16 May 2011

There are 12 EinStein teams and 6 StreetSoccer teams already. Any team games going on yet?

#23 · Ed Collins

17 May 2011

Another good question... will the top board of each team play the top board of an opposing team? Or will all four team members each play all four team members of an opposing team?

#24 · MRFvR

17 May 2011

I suppose that each player of a team will play every one of the other team's four players (scheveningen system).

#25 · MRFvR

17 May 2011

Another interesting idea would be that if a team has 8 (or 12, 16, etc) players they were allowed to enroll twice (or 3x, 4x, etc) for the same tournament. I realize that might have honesty issues there but this is frequently done in live chess and, everything considered, I think that benefits thrumps.

FAQ about teams is updated. Tournaments will start probably on June 1st.

#28 · groeneveld

19 May 2011

@ marius halsor: you can ask MRFvR, if you can join Sobral1919

#29 · Ingo Althofer

> Anyone need another player in their EWN-team?

Hi Marius, do you have a bot at hand for the

Waldorf team?

Cheers, ingo

#32 · KPT

19 May 2011

and there is a minimun of players in a team, to participate in a tournament?

Because, i think is not the idea to play with Oneplayer-teams.

#33 · Ed Collins

19 May 2011

Suggestion. 8 players on a team is just too many!

I can already see, we need many more teams! Having a bunch of teams with just a few players each, is much, much better than having a few teams with a bunch of players.

It might be hard, initially, to form teams at all, until the team concept takes off.

I think for now, each team should have, as a max, just four, or maybe five players and that's it.

#34 · Duke of Prunes

19 May 2011

I agree with Ed.

Is there somebody for a weak Breakthrough Team?

#36 · Ed Collins

19 May 2011

Thanks for sharing.

It think six players on a team might be okay... in the future. But for now, I'm not so sure.

For example assume just 18 players wish to play on a team. If that were the case, I'd rather see six teams of THREE players each, then just three teams with six players.

I don't think five on a team is too little at all. My opinion is that THREE would be too little. 4, 5, or 6 ideal. Anything after that, too many!

#37 · somar96

19 May 2011

Weak breakthrough? that's me :D

#38 · Paavo Pirinen

19 May 2011

Well, if a team can play with fewer players, the rather big maximum isn't too bad. Of course players in little teams will have quite a handful of games.

#39 · KPT

19 May 2011

i think that 4 Players its ideal. (or, the 4 strongers players of the team)

I have no problem to create

A Serendipity Team Class B

so that all the members can play the tournaments.

#40 · Julius Sneezer

19 May 2011

i would like to make an appeal to Richard not to limit the "teams" concept to just "teams that play against other teams." it's obvious that people are already thinking of it as a form of social networking, forming teams that are like "clubs" of players with similar interests. Players in teams like this could have tournaments where they play against each other, for example. The "teams" concept in the FAQ http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/team/faq.jsp so far would leave all teams such as Einstein and Soccer irrelevant. I think teams should be more flexible to include the other uses to which players are intuitively putting them.

#41 · KPT

20 May 2011

But IT IS possible. With the UT tournament.

#42 · Rafael Marques

23 May 2011

Everytime I see the teams advertisement on the left upper corner I first think someone has died. It really looks like a death notice...

#43 · Aganju

23 May 2011

yes, right. same for me (black = someone died??)

#44 · opmp

25 May 2011

What for a distanz?

#45 · euhuang

25 May 2011

Richard -- Suggest just 5 players (as a minimum) for a team. 8 is too many and not easy to form a team.

#46 · KPT

25 May 2011

but they are setting 8 players just as a MAXIMUM. @euhuang

#47 · Aganju

27 May 2011

Removing a team does now work.

#48 · euhuang

28 May 2011

@kp4to:You are right. My suggestion should change to that the number of games per team match should be 5, not 8.

#49 · KPT

30 May 2011

Common guys!!!

Create new teams and join them or the others that already exist.

Must be at least 5 Teams in a game to do TeamTournaments.

I'm sure we have PLENTY of players here.

What's going on with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
