Collection of the hex games in Littlegolem
  • Zeycus at 2004-01-02

I would like to know if is there anybody who is gathering the complete collection of games played here, in a single analysis board, as Kevin has been doing for 10x10 games played in other sites. For example, in a single hgt file for JHex.

    Wouldn't it be interesting?

I think I remember Kevin mentioning that he could gather all the games en mass. Seems he had discussed this with the folks here.

seems like a great idea to me

Very well, then I'll contact Kevin to know the state of the affairs. If he would not be interested in doing it, I think I can try, because the JHex format is throughtly documented. Provided the bunch of games would be available, of course.

    Cheers!

Some months ago, Kevin said he would put the source code on the Source Forge website (a Linux website) under the name “gametree.” But there are no files available there yet. Richard M. has expressed willingness to provide archive files of Hex (and Twixt also) directly in Jhex/Jtwixt format, but an import capabilty would still be desirable, so that header information about each game (who played, was swap used, etc.) could be automatically saved with each game, instead of having to add this info manually. Some other improvements to Jgame are also desirable, such as ability to merge comments when trees are merged, and some other stuff mostly to do with Twixt.

I have (hopefully) succeded to make a small C program that receives a text file with LittleGolem games (in text format) as input, and generates a JHex file with the gametree as output. The information about players is discarded, although in the leave-nodes I could add, as comment, the names of the players. If Richard M. would provide the bunch of games in text format, I could (hopefully) produce a JHex file.

I can send you LG hex games (g<=95000, I believe they are finished) in one bunch txt format, however in my opinion the main problem is selection, I mean deleting weak games, games with stupid moves, etc.

Thanks for your offer. I trying to arrange my computer to download all the hex games. So, I don't need it by now.

I have done it, since my offer. I made the simple, small program to downlowd hex games, hovever looking at results I noticed some exceptions (my condition of recognition hex game was “SZ[13]” included in txt, but not “KM[“).
