If you want to talk use this thread
  • David J Bush ★ at 2003-12-12

The “Results” thread is for reporting who won in the match games. Thanks.

  • Tim Shih at 2003-12-12 OK, so who would like to talk about wine, dine, and Hex spline over here? :) Good night or good day, every one.
  • Alan Turing at 2003-12-13

I’d like to talk about women. There’s always a lot to say about women. (And if any of you Hex players are women IRL, feel free to correct us slow men when we are completely off the mark about stuff.)

na_w said that women say “yes” when they mean “no”, “no” when they mean “yes”, and that when they say “i don't know”, they’re hot. :) i’d like to elaborate on this: Is it possible that women speak with other things than words? Like, tonality, body posture, pauses etc? Because if they do, I would really like to learn and understand languages.

I love languages, as some of you know. Speaking/understanding the Woman language would be a great asset.

  • na_wspak at 2003-12-13

well i belive that there must be a women language they use to communicate with each other or maybe for some other reasons (to show us they’re ready?;) ) but i also belive there is no way for men to learn it. if any man learnt the language he would become allmighty in man-woman relationships.

  • Alan Turing at 2003-12-13

Now I really want to learn it. :)

  • na_wspak at 2003-12-13

then im really sorry but u cant;)

  • Alan Turing at 2003-12-14

    Aw, come on.

  • Tim Shih at 2003-12-14 Hi, Alan, yes, it is highly possible that human beings, including slow men, too, not just female species, speak with other attributes different from straightforward languages. :)

One notable example will be that, if a woman plays Hex primarily for the sake of being close to you, then she likes you.

Worse comes to worst, ask WOMEN themselves such questions, NOT na_wspak. :) Snow day in Maryland today.

  • Alan Turing at 2003-12-14

I will take you seriously, Tim, and spend next week asking women how they percieve their own methods of communication. Who knows, maybe I’ll learn something new.

Yes, a woman who’s prepared to play Hex just to be close — that would be nice. I’ll make some inquiries in that direction too while I’m at it; though I seriously doubt the success of that endeavour.

  • Alan Turing at 2003-12-14

Oh, and it’s snowing here too, in Uppsala, Sweden.

  • ypercube ★ at 2003-12-14

We are also expecting snow on Tuesday, here in Florina (Greece). And a woman who plays hex during cold nights seems like a dream. (and if she sometimes prefers to change the h to s, that’s Paradise.)

  • Tasmanian Devil at 2003-12-14

I advice you not to mention Hex or any other board game in the first conversation.

  • Alan Turing at 2003-12-15

I’m not so sure. I’ve heard that women can get turned on when the subject gets a little... hexual.

  • Alan Turing at 2003-12-15

For reference, today I’ve asked two women about their thoughts on female communication. The first said that in principle women can read minds and expect nothing less from men. Failing that, they are content with men who say what they think and do what they say. The preferred modes of communication according to this first woman, was (in descending order of preference) 1. reading her mind directly, 2. talking/doing consistently, 3. just doing, 4. just talking.

The second woman I approached seemed to have slightly lower self-esteem. She hesitated as to whether she herself communicated at all (which is funny because we were talking), and then she concluded that nobody ever communicated with her because nobody liked her. From this I draw the conclusion that there might be a positive correlation between (awareness of) communication skills, and self-esteem.

All in all, a successful set of interviews. 'd be happy to hear your comments.
