Reply to this topic Return to forumI wondered about some of the records for speedy wins/passes/etc on this server for Othello, so I decided to start this thread where people are welcomed to try to post the fastest whatever in this game that they've accomplished/found. The only requirement would be that you post the game id so the rest of us can take a gander!
Here's my first candidate:
fastest pass in 10x10 (move 23): 641263
Thanks,
Chris
oh, and the move number would be nice as well…
fastest pair of passes in 10x10 (ends on move 25): 641263
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Chirs,
Here is a link to a discription of a bizarre game i played ages ago against 2006 wold championships participant Amy Fu,
http://othello.dk/book/index.php/Checkerboarding#Beck_Vs_Fu
It sees a pass at move 22, which is not due to a longertem mobility advantage. its caused by a checkerboarding pattern. Amy played well to spot it, shame she went on to lose =)
David.
Do you have complete game ?
Did you know this checkerboard was a lost to Fu as Wzebra is thinking after 23.f2 ?
If it was a trap, it is a very good one!
Unfortunatly Carroll i dont, it took us a long time to remember how we got to that position in the first place.
Its not really a trap though, traps usually result in someone conceeding a corner. I think i was just some very nice checkerboard play =)
Its nice when this game throws stuff like that up =D
My favourite is the win while holding no edges. Try that, it will take ages to get one.
David Beck.
This is a very interesting opening, which i will study thouroughly.
A somewhat similar position, but still completely different is the following sequence I discovered in a game against the computer: c4c3d3e3d2c5b5e1c2b1e2b3f5c6d7c7. It is not exactly checkeboarding (two adjacent black discs at e5 and f5) but it leaves black with only two options, both of them being x-squares. In order to achieve this position white has to make two 'errors' e1 and b1 which leaves black with a huge advantage, but black is tempted into a trap at e2 which is a mistake.
Actually the above game between beck and fu is much more interesting because it is a close game in which no large mistakes should be forced before it can occur.
I enjoyed seeing that snippet. However, I'd like to limit our quickest 'records' to limited to the games on this site. I just think it'd be cool to look at some of these. For instance:
Quickest 8th pass in 10x10 (ends on move 100): 643512
or
Quickest defeat in 8x8 (advantage to white move 35): 653235
Hey Roel, just incase you pass by this way
thought you might like this sequence =)
1. c4 2. c3
3. d3 4. e3
5. f3 6. b5
7. b3 8. c5
9. c6 10. d7
11. c7
David.
Nice one David, although I already knew this. Actually, b2 is now the best move estimated at -2. So playing (or being forced to play) an (open) x-square early in the game does not neccesarily need to be a bad move.
