What happens to LOA if the distance a piece moves is N-1 rather than N, when there are N pieces on the line along which the move takes place?

This idea went through my mind as I like the idea of just being able to sit on an opponent that's next to you if there's nothing else on that line. In some ways it will be slower (you can't move as far), in others it will be faster (you don't get trapped so easily).

What about lines where there is only one piece, stuck?

yes, you'd need to rescue such pieces
