Reply to this topic Return to forumI do not understand the strategy to this game at all and I basically just playing random moves right now until I start to see basic patterns but I just wanted to know if a draw is common. Have we had any draws yet?
Read the thread about a computer player for some strategical tips. Draws are impossible. These pieces are more powerful than pawns in chess; they cannot be blockaded. One side or the other will always win.
Oh I see, thank you for your answers and I apoligize for not having the incentive to find that out myself.
In fact, the game can not last longer than 89 moves for white and 88 for black. Further, these bounds are optimal.
Sorry to tell the contrary, a game cannot last more than 81 moves for white and 80 for black.
As you can see here after 10 moves each, next move on column 1 will win. As you have 8 columns, you get to 80 which is 2x(8-3)x8, or 2(lines-3)xcolumns.
Line-3 because you go from 2 to line-1 !
I stopped the game here because it is really boring to play against oneself…
Sorry, Carroll but you are wrong and Reiner is correct. The 2nd column pawns as you describe can move in a similar way - but eating one black and one white pawn each. So the a3 and a6 pawns will have one more move each to make! Result is 88 moves for both sides and 1 more winning move.
You are right ypercube and Reiner, as can be seen here 21 moves each for two columns.
Amazing that taking gives you an extra move… I will consider taking you when you come to line 2!
So Cx(2L-5) for white, that is 63 on a 7x7 and 77 on a 7x8 as Tim Shih proposed on previous topic.
