Big congrats to Scot who not only beat me on PBem server (8x8 dots), but now also gave me my first loss here on littlegolem. I'll get u next time :P

  • p_a_k_o at 2004-08-26

Woww!! nice, i thought it's impossible to defeat michael. Congratulations to Scot!!!

  • Knox (Computer) at 2004-08-26

I ran D.Wilson's analysis program on the position after

the 18th move. Every move after that was one of the

best moves with the exception of Michael's 31st move. The

only winning move was 31.e1-f1 (or the equivalent f1-f2).

Considering how impressively well the game was played,

it is surprising that the decisive error occurred so late.

The following are some brief results for various moves.

    20. One of the 3 best moves.

    22. The 3-chain offer is unique best move.

    23. Both “Take all” and “leave two” options give the

    same result against perfect play.

    24. One of the 2 distinct best moves.

    (a1-a2 and a1-b1 are equivalent)

    25. This 2-chain sac is unique winning move.

    26. The unique best move.

    28. One of 2 best moves.

    29. One of 2 distinct best moves.

    30. The unique best move.

    31. The critical error.

    32. The unique winning response.

    34. This 4-loop sac is the unique winning move!

    35. Declining is relatively best because it gives

scot a chance to go wrong. If you take the loop,

then scot will win no matter what.

    36. This sac is the only way to win and immediately

    ends all the excitement.

On a related note, scot also defeated Knox in the championship and is definitely a threat to win it.

Congratulations to Scot for winning the first golem championship also. Michael has 1 loss and 124 (and rising) wins. What 1 game can do!

  • michael at 2004-11-16

And another loss in the first monthly cup too :-) Congrats to Tomek (pedro)

  • Scot at 2005-01-03

As he predicted five months ago, michael did defeat me (and 6 other opponents) and is the second dots championship champion! Only ebm beat him in the top league. A few games remain, but I want to congratulate michael for being the top dots player!

  • Scot at 2005-07-21

As of today, July 21, only p_a_k_o and michael can possibly catch championship 4 dots leader alkosan. Looking at unfinished games, I predict that alkosan will be the winner. I wish to be the first to congratulate the new champion. Good job, alkosan! I’m looking forward to next time!

I don’t wish to take away from the winner, but as a point of trivia, this is the first time that the winner has two lost games. dots.ch.4.1.1

So are you saying michael is losing one of his three remaining games? It seems to me he will get the best tie-break if he wins them all.

  • KnoxB (Computer) at 2005-07-21

    Michael is losing to Dansgek!

So it appears that Alkosan will win the championship

edging out Pako by the tiebreaker (Pako's game vs.

    Michael is lost).

Who would have thought that Michael would lose

    three games in the championship

  • Dansgek at 2005-07-26

    My second win against Michael…

Michael was it because of your vacation ??

I know i havent been focussed lately

  • michael at 2005-07-26

No, nothing to do with my holiday :) it were all well deserved wins. Congratulations everyone, especialy Alkosan for taking down the championship. We'll meet again in championship #5 ;)

  • Draakhan (on vacation) at 2005-07-30

I can say that sometimes one move can decide about the winner of championship. E.g. look at this one. If I hadn't done this critical mistake top3 of championship would be: p_a_k_o, michael and alkosan ;) Anyway big congrats for alkosan for being more focussed than me and winning this way the championship ;)

  • ypercube at 2005-08-01

If you hadn't done this mistake, it would be pako and Draakhan at the top, and alkosan, michael an Scot at 3-5 positions.

Another mistake was this one, that cost michael 2 points (and the 1st place?)

  • Draakhan (on vacation) at 2005-08-01

Huh, ypercube, of course you're right :D I forgot about myself :D

  • michael at 2005-08-01

It was the Greek force that made me play there :-). I obviously made one of the easiest errors (and one I'm anxious of, cause I know I will make it every once in a while). I thought I was 1st player for a move. I can usually still twist it around when I see my error, but ypercube played it perfectly after my mistake. No messing around with the Greek Gods :-) congrats on a well deserved win.

  • alkosan at 2005-08-06

i just got home from vacation. guess how surprised i was to find out i won the championship :) thank you draakhan for giving me that important win :)

  • Draakhan (on vacation) at 2005-08-07

No problem ;) Next time you'll give me :P
