New word game at voggle.com
  • z at 2022-02-27

    Hi!

Check out my new word game Voggle at https://voggle.com.

Should I tone down the difficulty level to attract more players?

Let me know your thoughts and average score too :)

    Thanks!

    z

    Thanks for sharing this!

    It's really fun.

It took me a while (most of the first game) to notice that I am clearing locations, not cubes.

It also took me a while to figure out that you don't score better by using fewer guesses, but rather by using long words. (Perhaps you should have a bonus for each unclaimed (i.e. darker) letter used, so that you get an added bonus of 16*n/turns, with perhaps n=10 or 20?)

    Best average score: 118.4

It took me about 6 tries to get 3 stars and another 4-5 to reach 4 stars.

Is there any way to play the previous days' grids?

  • z at 2022-02-27

I've taken a page from Wordle to limit one puzzle a day, though each one can be played repeatedly.

It's impressive that you've achieved 118.4 with ten tries! My personal best is 116.9 for puzzle #15.

  • William Fraser at 2022-02-28

It took me more than 10 tries. Maybe 20?

  • Wickedestjr at 2022-02-28

Cool game. First try I got four stars (after reading this thread) - 102.3 avg.

  • z at 2022-03-01

@Wickedestjr: 102.3 on your very first try is super impressive. Care to share your score card for puzzle #17?

  • psikonauta at 2022-03-01

Very nice! I got 101.8 on second try.

    What is your words dictionary?

It prevented me to use two 'h' to put Shoah…

Is the aim to get more points (adding more words) or to get a good mean, stopping early?

  • William Fraser at 2022-03-02

For today's, I got 150.7 on the first try! On the one hand, I don't think I'll try to improve on that, and on the other hand, I was kind of hoping that'd be worth 5 stars….

Oh, and by the way, what happens when you click “Share”?

  • z at 2022-03-02

@Carroll: Voggle accepts 220,000+ words compiled from Scrabble dictionaries and a few additional sources. SHOAH is not a valid word in Scrabble (https://east.wordplays.com/scrabble-dictionary/shoah).

The objective is to maximize the mean score per word. Finding a long word to delay winning sometimes helps improve ppm.

  • z at 2022-03-02

    @William Fraser: 4-star is the max :)
On most mobile browsers, the share button brings up a pop up that shares an image with another app or device (via airdrop).

On most desktop browsers, clicking the share button downloads an image of your score card.

Decided to try it out but I cheated since I happened to have a program laying around that could help me find words. 205.3 on game #18.
P.S. I couldn't find a way to post the image here but z came up with the suggestion of using imgur.

Trying the suggestion from David Bush – using postimages.org to try to embed an image of my game #19 here.

Yikes that's big. I sincerely apologize for my recent sloppy posts. I'll stop now.

  • z at 2022-03-04

@lorentz: it's amazing that you can consistently get 200+ ppm. Was it fully automated or semi-auto?

  • lorentz at 2022-03-04

Very semi. :) It gives me a list of words I can choose with 6 or more letters. Then I pick one that seems to leave good choices for the next round. But it took 3 tries to break 200 yesterday.

  • lorentz at 2022-03-04

    20, 212.7 :)

  • lorentz at 2022-03-04

Unbelievable. I made another ugly post. More apologies. I guess # at the beginning of the line means something. Of course I meant #20, 212.7

  • William Fraser at 2022-03-08

    Today's seemed much harder. #23, 101.9 after about 6 tries…..

It seems as though “Share” doesn't do anything on MacOS / Safari.

  • z at 2022-03-08

@William Fraser: today's puzzle is indeed hard. I got 104.6 after three or four tries.

Clicking “Share” on Safari/macOS brings up a popup like this:
    share
