Reply to this topic Return to forumBen Seeley won the world-championship for the second year in a row! Congrats to him and also arrgh for taking the 4'th place!
Congrats to Ben and to argh, that is showing to be not just very strong, but also very constant!
May I offer my belated congratulations to all those who participated in the hardest WOC so far. I thought last year was tough but this year it must have been really hard.
I would especially like to congratulate Andreas for his superb second day and the 4th place. I remember talking about Andreas with Klaashaas at the end of the first day (I think he only had 4.5 points) and saying that he needed more than just a repeat of Caspard’s performance in 2003 to get in the top 4. Well he did just that, Rose and Tamenori in the last two rounds! Is that possible??!!!
Nicky and Leon played very well to gather those 7.5 points and finish in the top 20. I am sure that they are two of favourites to get the WOC places for next year and that they will be able to make the most of this years experience in the 2005 WOC. I am glad that Nicky managed to gather himself and come back after just 0.5 point in the first 3 rounds (Klaashaas was again proved correct when he told me that Nicky is a tough cookie and wont go down without a big fight).
Finally I would like to mention Jan Kristian Haugland who somehow managed to gather 8 points after picking only 3 points on the first day. Only someone who is really special can do that!
Thanking you all for the entertainment. I am already looking forward to next year's WOC.
first of all thank you to agoui.
another big surprise for me was that the german team was
able to reach the second place.
at the first day we were not very happy with the teamranking.
matthias had 5/7 me 4,5/7 and holger 2/7, but second day
was better with matthias 4/6 me 5/6 holger 5/6.
there was no chance to reach the us-team but we finished
ahead of japan and the rest of the world :)
last year we had 4! players who wanted to play for the
german team and this is the record in the german othello-
history :)
but as it looks like that germany has a chance for hosting
the next woc there will hopefully be some more tournament
players.
To those of you who have seen the American Pie-movies, I just want to say: I am a very special boy! ;-)
I am sure you are special :)
Talking about surprises, I agree that team Germany performance was one of the surprises of the tournament. However for me the biggest surprise was Voracek's performance (including the win against Makoto). On the negative side I think Shaman's performance was not up his high standards. May be his son did not let him sleep during the nights. I also expected Caspard to finish higher than 7 points.
So Germany is the favorite for hosting next year's WOC? Did any other countries asked for it?
I think it's bit early to speak of 'favorites'…
Rumours are always fun :-) Like the Brazil2004 rumour ;-)
congrats to all participants at Woc, analyzing the final matches i'm always more convinced that Seeley come from another planet ;-)
