Absolute numbers are impressive but not too meaningful, if I understand the scoring rules correctly:

On 29-Jan Richard got 154 of max 163 points (94%)

    On 30-Jan Pawel got 313 of max 326 (96%)

Yesterday's high score was only 345 of max 398, which is just 87%

    Congratulations anyway !!!

  • passenger at 2006-02-01

I think it depends on number of players, but I must say Pawel score is really impresive:) In my opinion it would be better if we get points for place we took. For example first place 50p, second 30p third 20p, 4-15 5-13 6-10 7-9 8-8 9-7 10-6 11-5 12-4 13-3 14-2 15-1. It's just an idea.

  • Marius Halsor at 2006-02-01

I fear ratings or comparisons in this game. The reason for this is that it is too easy to cheat, and although I think that most LG-players are above such activities, I believe that ratings or rankings could encourage a person or two to cheat. I doubt anyone at all would do it if there are no rating or ranking.

Having said that, I agree with passengers suggestion, if there is to be a ranking (I really love having rankings, so I'm not very happy to say I think we shouldn't have them in this game).

  • Figilano at 2006-02-01

Ranking, although it may tempt someone to cheat, adds to the long term motivation and thus to the fun, I think.

(“Damn, I better come up with some good words, or I'll drop out of the top 10!” ;-)

BTW, does “football” equal “soccer” or is it really “football” this time? ;)

  • Greck at 2006-02-01

“football” is whatever people think it is,,, just a matter of empathy ;o)

  • MichaeI X at 2006-02-01

    > does “football” equal “soccer” or is it really “football” this time? ;)

Rather you guess what the others guess you will think in a minute ;)

    Tomorrow will show

  • Linesman at 2006-02-01

    > does “football” equal “soccer”

    > or is it really “football” this time? ;)

The answer is: Yes, it is what the AMERICANS call “soccer”. And yes, it is REAL football. :-) For us it's “Fu?ball” anyway, but do you remember the EC in England 1996? The slogan was “Football is coming home”, not “soccer”. Sorry, but when it comes to selling out our terminology to U.S. cultural imperialism, that's where I get missionary. :-)))

  • passenger at 2006-02-01

    And Poland once again:P

  • Richard Malaschitz ★ at 2006-02-01

    And new 'percentage' record = 391/407 = 96.07%

Old record (Pawel Grabowski) was 96.01%

  • dopplefunker at 2006-02-01

I see the top 10 is added.. I think Michael X has the better idea: I think I'd prefer to see the top 10 of the last 7 days as a function of percent instead of total points. i.e., in one contest if you get 300 points and the winner gets 400, you got 75% of the max. I doubt pako's 391-point victory is 250% more impressive than Richard's 154-point victory.

Perhaps you could take an average of the percentages and require someone play at least 5 of the last 7 to qualify for the top 10.

Maybe it's just me.. after all, I think I might be #1 in my own version of the top 10 :) (since I missed the first day)

  • dopplefunker at 2006-02-01

er, sorry, my idea was a bit different than Michael X's

  • dopplefunker at 2006-02-01

OK, on second thought, Richard has a simple implementation that is fair and useful. The effort required to code my version wouldn't be worth it.

I'll just wait until that first day is removed from the “last 7” to see where I am

  • p_a_k_o at 2006-02-02

Wow … another winner from Poland :))) Congrats Anwi :)

  • ypercube at 2006-02-02

And Top-10 is all of Europe: Slovakia, Spain, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Nederland, Greece, 2 Polands and one from USA.

  • Richard Malaschitz ★ at 2006-02-03

Last game was very difficult. If n is number of players, than max=n*n*10 is theoretical maximum of sum of all points. In last game ( Music) players reach only 21% of this maximum.

    Past games:

    Snow - 28 %

    Football - 29%

    Fire - 26%

    Tree - 26%

    Music - 21%

  • ypercube at 2006-02-03

Another interesting statistic that also shows something about yesterday's game:

    Word-Players-MostPopularWord-PointsOfMostPopular-Percent

    Snow-36-white-28-79%

    Tree-68-green-46-68%

    Fire-88-hot-57-65%

    Football-95-ball,goal-69-73%

    Music-117-rock-59-50%

  • Piotr Karas at 2006-02-03

    Yes, um…

if I haven't reach even top twenty in any of all my games (4 that is) does it mean I am… creative? :)

    an artist or something?

we'll see what 'beer' will give me _

(I hope everybody wrote: 4 beers)

  • Richard Malaschitz ★ at 2006-02-06

Last two games (Sea, Mathematic) has two new records. If n is number of players, than max=n*n*10 is theoretical maximum of sum of all points. Last two games reach:

    Sea - 37% (new maximum)

    Mathematic - 20 % (new minimum)

  • ypercube at 2006-02-06

No calculations yet, but I'm sure “Sky” has set a new sky record!

  • ypercube at 2006-02-06

92 out of 95 players wrote “blue”. That a little bit less than 97% !

  • Richard Malaschitz ★ at 2006-02-07

    True. Sky reach 37.3% !!

  • passenger at 2006-02-07

Congrats to Pawel, who is first who won twice:)

  • Pawel Grabowski at 2006-02-08

thanks :) I'm very lucky at this game.

  • anwi at 2006-02-08

It is not luck, it is just empathy :) Congratulation!

  • anwi at 2006-02-09

Congrats passenger :) Do you think that your psychology background gives you advantage in empathy game?

  • passenger at 2006-02-09

I thought about it and I think the answer is no:) I think I have so good results in this game because of my poor english. Generally I just know only basic words and these are the most popular.

  • anwi at 2006-02-10

I think that this is important factor. A lot of not native speakers use LG and UK/US players are not ahead as one could expect.

  • Richard Malaschitz ★ at 2006-02-11

Native speakers use little diferent words and their top-ten is different as rest of world - but difference is only onw or two words. For example in game 'COUNTRY' UK/US players had in top ten word 'FIELDS' but they had not words 'CAPITAL' or 'BORDER'. In game 'COMPUTER' US/UK players used words 'GAMES' and 'LAPTOP' instead of 'GAME' and 'PROGRAM'.

  • Piotr Karas at 2006-02-12

what about football and 'soccer' ?? :)

  • KPT at 2006-02-13

    i think …isnt a think of vocabulary

…doesnt mather if u dont speak english

    example “STAR”

i dont think in english words…

    i think…ohh star means ESTRELLA…

    “q se me viene a la mente…mmm ESTRELLA , CIELO , SOL , NOCHE”

and this words in english…are …“STAR” “SKY “SUN “NIGHT”

    …my opinion… (only translation thing)

  • Richard Malaschitz ★ at 2006-02-15

How often players were in Top10:

    11 Pawel Grabowski

    7 passenger

6 Peter van der Walle, klaashaas

    5 ypercube, michael, Ahmed al-Faqi, Henrik Sj?l

4 David Scott, dopplefunker, Roberto Huerta, silviatab, Luca Bruzzi

  • KPT at 2006-02-16

there are aprox. 100 players on a single day (game of empathy)

    Why the people dont play!!!

    i think ….the new of the game…is a little small…

maybe if u put in other colour or…change the size.

or aprox 100 players visit the website to play his games?

    and they plays?
