currently, there is an exciting final in
the top group of Ewn-Championship-2.
Watch and bet …

Yes, verry exciting. With only 6 open matches there are still 6 (of 12) players which can get 16 points. And 16 points could be enough to win the tournament…

And, there is the possibility that the Championship
will end in a 5-way-tie. Assume the following outcomes:
Hanfried - Fraggle 2-0
Telestes - Blackhat 2-0
Telestes - Fraggle 2-0
Fraggle - Blackhat 2-0
Fraggle - Graff 2-0
Fraggle - sZamBa
This would result in a standing, where
each of Hanfried, Telestes, Fraggle, Theo van der Storm,
and LuiseR had 16 points, each.

That's how you can look at it, but it seems LG considers it a tie only when points AND Son(nenborn-Berger) are equal.

I just added a spin button (no VBA macro) to reach the baffling conclusion at the bottom of the spreadsheet!

The two “silicon brains” fraggle_c and me finish our match. This was the most thrilling match I ever played. Look at the last 6 moves of the 1., 4. and 5. game and you will see, what I mean. At the end the dice made the desicion and now only three players are left, which can win the tournament:
fraggle_c, blackhat and me. But I can only sit and wait.

Apart from the fact that I didn't win there's nothing wrong with it.
As I wrote, it is what I could hope for, so it's a POSSIBLE FINAL OUTCOME.
I concluded with “Tricky Sonnenborn-Berger points!“,
because those points change more significantly and more to my disadvantage
then I expected.
Perhaps you didn't realise the SON points still keep changing for any finished player who has beaten a player, who scores additional points.
I hope this helps for your understanding.

In the Netherlands we are familiar with “metworst”, sometimes called
“boeren metworst” (farmer's sausage) readily available in butcher shops.
The way of thinking “we” mathematicians have (if you don't mind me using the word “we”) in combination with my IT skills, made my little exercise in discrete mathematics inevitable.

The “we” is very ok and justified, for instance
having in mind the genius “Storm chains” in the
evaluation function of your computer program for
EinStein wurfelt nicht.

It is very nice stuff. And, believe it or not, I
will use it in the advanced course on “Experimental
Optimization” at Jena University in next summer semester.

That's nice to hear! I believe you should then have the version with VBA macro,
which reveals additional surprises, e.g. about who could and could not finish on third place.

Your students will then get a feel, that with only a few lines of dedicated code, the tool gets a lot more powerful for analysis purposes.
Please let me know if you have trouble running the macro using the blue buttons. Then I can “Save As” to an older version of Excel and provide that one to you.
