How do you break ln pieces the Stonewalls attack?
  • Wakai Yushi at 2006-10-22

Does anyone know any good ways to break up a stonewalls attack? Anyway, from my practice against Stonewall, my opinion is it isn't very dangerous and, in common, I'd handle vs. it quite well. For example, to 1. f4 I even play 1 . . . f5 I don't think I need to be memorizing opening lines for while yet but I really dislike closed positions at the moment, I would much prefer to be able to force the game into something much more open or sharp as soon as possible. Thanks, Garyk Kaspik, again we do appreciate for the ideas, INPUT’ I'll happily eat my hat. ;) with coffee!!

I will try to put them into use. Are there any gambits for black that can rip the centrex open or if not, any good general ideas for diffusing white's king side attack? I will want to begin at some point try tackling these kinds of games in a more strategic manner but until I get a bit better I think keeping things as tactical as possible will be quite beneficial.

    Hello Wak,

Generally, I think Stonewall is really not dangerous openning (when black can moves Bg4 and exchange xNf3 than he is OK). As well you can process as black Gruenfeld opening but with d6 and e5 pawn structure.

Due to my time shortage below I send You the games (from my repertoire and from my friend previous No. 1 here) how to break Stonewall with Gambit as You expected.

You can study it. LG is good source/database to find new ideas:)
