    The Mind Sports Olympiad starts shortly in London, see www.msoworld.com. There are some exciting chess events which may be of interest…all with prizes (a first for many years):

    \* Chess 960, Sunday Aug 17th, 10:15 - 18:00

    - contituting the official British Open Chess 960 Championship

    - prizes are Gold medal £150, Silver £100, and Bronze £75

    - time control is 25min + 5s-per-move

    \* Chess Blitz, Sunday Aug 17th, 19:00-22:30

    - contituting the official British Open Chess 960 Championship

    - prizes are Gold medal £100, Silver £50, and Bronze £20; Junior Prizes: Gold £50, Silver £30, Bronze £20

    - time control is 5min + 3s-per-move

    \* Chess Rapid, Monday Aug 18th, 10:15 - 18:00

    - prizes are Gold medal £100, Silver £50, and Bronze £25; Junior Prizes: Gold £50, Silver £30, Bronze £20

    - time control is 25min + 5s-per-move

    \* Chess Exchange, Monday Aug 18th, 19:00-22:30

    - also called “Bughouse”, played with a partner (you will usually be able to find a partner if you don't bring one)

    - prizes are Gold medal £40 (£20 each), Silver £30 (£15 each), and Bronze £20 (£10 each)

    - time control is 5min (no increment)

    \* Shogi (Japanese chess), Wednesday Aug 20th, 19:00-22:30

    - prizes are Gold medal £100, Silver £50, and Bronze £25

    - time control is 15min + 30s-per-move

    \* Xiangqi (Chinese chess), Friday Aug 22nd, 14:00 - 17:45

    - prizes are Gold medal £50, Silver £30, and Bronze £20

    - time control is 15min + 5s-per-move

    Hopefully some players from Little Golem will be able to make it. Results will be posted on the website.
